Can't get past first quest
I've ran back and forth for over an hour looking for the chest on the island no monsters spawned at all.

like, there are no monsters at all in the zone? go back to the coast, control click on the transition for the tidal island and click "new" on the instance menu that pops up.

the chest will drop from the unique monster "hailrake" at the end of the island

the tidal island?...it's a loop , you can't miss the boss that drops it...unless you were maybe in a group and to far away to qualify for drops., in which case do what the other guy said
