Had league started like that once a few leagues back and it was just tedious on bosses.
Tried two builds with 6 linked bane and soulrend in standard prior Kalandra to test the waters, with the idea to transition into dark pact. Came to the conclusion that it must suck to league start with them. People thought you could just map until you got the currency to transition, but as we can see from player feedack it ain't that easy anymore.
The skills look cool but why play them if everything else is just more viable.
The point of having a 'build' is to focus 1 stat and make an optimal play towards making that ability (or its accompanying abilities) as op as possible.
Attempting to split damage over multiple resistance types just leaves you even more vulnerable to having your damage reduced and ultimately makes the build worse.
ED/Con has been (and still is) my main build for league start. I can attest to the fact that bosses (both act and map) feel much tankier than they have in the leagues previous to this and the last.
Not only that, but the ArchNem mobs seem to be uniquely resistant to Chaos damage and are nearly impossible to kill without having a well optimized gearset... Even at lower tier maps.
While I think that the claim of 95% resist is a bit over-dramatic, I definitely agree that Chaos has been feeling worse and worse over the leagues. Especially where bosses are concerned. 3 leagues ago I was capable of killing Kitava V2 in a few minutes, now it takes me nearly 10 even with good gear. Early game Merveil is equally as irritating to do, even with Blight.
Its also a much harder stat to gear for (since it doesn't come implicit on ANY item) and more often than not a harder roll to get (according to the weight charts on POEDB) making it doubly as difficult to run unless you have some particular attachment to it.
If you're dealing with Rare/Archnemisis, the modifiers will affect it as well. A toxic or chaos nemesis will take reduced chaos damage. thats just random what nemesis mods are on the rare monsters.
Either way, Chaos Res tends to be about 20% lower then Elemental Res on most bosses. The difference is Chaos users have less methods to penetrate chaos resistance. There is a curse to reduce it, but curses are less effective on bosses. Elemental users typically have Penetration abilities from equipment or passives, as well as Exposure they can stack on enemies in addition to the relative curse. That may make it seem like the elemental resistance is lower, but in actuality they are just leveraging more methods to reduce or penetrate the resistance because they have to face a higher resistance to begin with.
It could be the skilsl you're using have been nerfed in some way, but bosses have not had their resistances appreciably changed.
