Changing Color of Gem Slots on Items
Is it possible to get the colors you want or is it random? From what i see its always Random? I have this awesome Shield in my chest I cant use yet as when i always change the gem slot colours it never gives me the colurs I need? I need 2 blue and 1 red, it keeps giving me 1 blue and 2 red or green, its not helpful

There is RNG but the main attributes of the item give higher chance of certain colors: armor-red, evasion-green, energy shield-blue. There are crafting recipes you can discover in the delve mine which allow you to make a roll with 1, 2, or 3 guaranteed colors.

There are also crafting recipes in delve which give you a guaranteed number of sockets. You can use this to build an item with colors you want as follows: start with an item with a low number of sockets and use the guaranteed colors recipe to get them as you want. Then use the recipe to add one more socket (the current sockets with this recipe will not change color). If you get the color you want, continue with the next highest socket number recipe. If not, you can reverse the recipe and try again. This requires a fair amount of currency orbs, but it will give you eventually the colors you want without relying on RNG (especially if you are trying to roll off colors on an item, like red sockets on an evasion/energy shield base).

There may also be recipes in Oshabi's garden for socket colors, but I haven't spent a lot of time looking there.

It is based on the stat req of your armor.
If you want more blue, then intelligent armor is easier
If you want gem mostly blue and red, then str int armor can get it easiest

This means that if you can craft reduced attribute requirements onto something, getting off-color sockets becomes easier.

If you want some statistics for your item, check https://siveran.github.io/calc.html

Those recipes are no longer in Delve. See https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Crafting_Bench#Crafting_modifiers and scroll to Niko (for those legacy reasons), they are now in specific maps.

I need 2 blue and 1 red, my awesome shield i want to use keeps giving me 1 blue and 2 red or 2 green and 1 blue....ive used the socket changer 8 times over and still giving me wrong colours s urghh
Samseng Yik Nov 18, 2021 @ 10:55pm
And you still refuse to write out the stat requirement of the shield?
Sounds like INT shield

A shield has only 3 socket.
Crafting bench can "force the color" up to 3 sockets.
This league I playing a heavy armor dude, got a helmet wit STR req 100+ but I need 3 blue socket.
So I use crafting bench to force the 3 blue. The rest 1 socket I want red, easily rolled by a STR based helmet

Sorry i should do that, i will next game

It can only have 3 sockets at best

People already gave you an answere. Go to delve you can find there a socket color and socket number crafting recipe for your bench. When you have the recipe you pay 25crom and you get 2 garanteed colors.

They aren't in delve anymore though. Like the driver posted they are now in specific maps which you can view from the crafting bench of the recipe itself in game as well if you don't own the recipe all ready.

Is there a problem with this?
You want to set a specific color on your shield which is maximum only 3 sockets.
Crafting bench can set 3 colors, and ?

Ahh--I skipped a few leagues recently and didn't know they had changed the recipe locations. Looking at the wiki it is probably better to put them in maps since some of the delve locations were tricky to access (and not everyone likes delve anyway). Good to know...
