Brain-dead guide for casuals?
Is there a super-simple guide to playing and building out a character? I just don't have the time to invest into games like I used to, but want to play a solid ARPG.

I've looked up videos and guides, but when you only have 30 minutes to an hour to game, spending most of that time studying a build is no fun.

Please be nice, and don't tell me "go back to Diablo III" or something along those lines. If it's just not possible, simply state that.

Thanks.

Do you have any playtime in the game yet?

Have you made a decision on which class (style) you would like to play?

If you have, do you have a build guide?

Have you downloaded “PathOfBuilding (fork)” to import the build guide so you can follow the skill tree and gear recommendations?

Some beginner friendly builds (relatively easy to make them work with a lot of possible content) that come to mind you could just google for: Necromancer Skeletons, Essence Drain + Contagion, Enkis Arc Witch, Toxic Rain Pathfinder.

BUT: with only a hour daily tops, i personally would advise against PoE for you.
When you start the "real" game after the 10 acts, a lot of different content becomes available. While it is perfectly fine to ignore most of them, you are also missing out a lot of mechanics, crafting possibilities, certain mechanic-locked loot, etc by not doing stuff.
I am in a similar situation (not having that much time for gaming anymore), and only playing PoE for a hour or so daily felt like getting nowhere at all, since there is so much that can be done (or should be done, depends on your attitude towards the content ;) ).
This is ofc only how i felt with playing PoE with little time daily, but at least for me spending that little time in other games felt way more rewarding.
PoE can be a great blast, but it needs a certain amount of input to get it imo.

You don't have to read a guide or follow a build to have fun. Just play and learn as you go. The game is not that hard or complex if you just want to play and have fun, and aren't concerned with getting to endgame content or building an unstoppable monster character, which without much time investment you're probably not going to be able to do anyway.

What is path of building? I played the game quite a bit many years ago, but it would be like starting fresh...

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. Shame there's not more of these types of games out there. Diablo III struck the right chord with regard to a casual ARPG, but you can only play so many seasons of that...

This game will require a decent amount of hours per week.
Playing an hour or two a day will not get you very far.

I can give you an example: I started beginning of february this year and I’ve clocked around 250h so far.

I have basic understanding of basic mechanics, the end game, mapping, end game bosses etc but I’d be lost without of my friends who has put a couple thousand hours in this game.

Casually playing this game will be long and rocky road, I’d advise you to look for something else which would be more friendly for casual players.

Any recommendations as to what that "something else" would be? I'd prefer not to revisit Diablo III or Torchlight II. I guess I can wait for Diablo III: Resurrected...

I’d suggest Divinity Original Sin 2, it’s an excellent isometric old school roleplaying game.

Also Wasteland 3 is amazing.
I’ve heard good things about ’Grim Dawn’ as well.

Really good game and I recommend it to everyone but I spent about 108 hours on my playthrough doing all the content, OP might want something shorter.

Already own it. Fantastic game, but I need something a little more "pick and and put down" now that I have a little one.

Just download and install the game, it's free. Who cares if you don't have time to do everything the game has to offer? Just leveling a new character though the acts is fun IMO. Just doing some low tier maps is fun too. Sure, the game does become even more fun when you become a degenerate farming addict like us who have thousands of hours in the game I'll admit that lol

Something else could be Grim Dawn

Just simply do whatever you want lol

As a member of godslayer(we who kill lots of siruses and mavens), we wont share our secrets easily not just bcoz we're selfish but if we do, you won't have gratitude after you done what we done.

We feel no difficulty on all lethal mechanic, killing all bosses for free bcoz we don't know what to do next but rotting in hideout, having full set of min maxed gears only make us no more interest for mapping, we don't need any currency as well, not even mirror of kalandra.

What I mean, you should enjoy this period just like others, there is no shame about being one of those "normal" player, dying in game and get penalty of decrease 10% exp may sounds bad but there is no miracle happen even you've reach lvl100 but boredom.

In fact, the time I most enjoying in this game is when I'm still weak, seeking our first tabula, more blighted map, next harvest craft, next exalts dropped, next awakened gem dropped and more. Those are best time ngl.

(Edit):I've spent a lot of time studying builds and played many of them, most of them failed to beat Sirus even lol, but I learn more after that many failure, and I can design a unique build with many layers of talent tree and gears that make me a godslayer now, that's the way mate, spend more time drill deep or just simply play the game by copy strike others.
