SSF Uniques rant
I usually play ssf every single league since it gives me a sense of achievement and challenge compared to trade where you can just buy almost anything off of other players. HOWEVER, there is an issue with target farming certain Uniques. I've been looking for a Cold Iron Point this whole league in vain. The league is about to end and I had to roll with generic build #401. Now, imagine having build enabling Uniques that never drop. Some of these items are locked behind a pure luck factor, while others not only have div cards you can target farm but also drop en mass. ( I ♥♥♥♥ you not, I dropped 2 headhunters but not a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dagger)
Not to mention that I have never ever dropped a Soulwrest all these years I've been playing. (whereas on trade I can buy them day 1 w/o any sense of accomplishment)
I've been playing ARPGs but I never imagined a game that makes me grind for 3 months and still not get that 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥ item that's not even high up there on the imba power scale.
I'm still hoping for the day where GGG treats SSF as it's own server with its own patches, but hey, a man can dream.

Yeah that is pretty much a fool's dream. I am an SSF player too but I'm also a realist and the odds of GGG doing that are about as high as you winning the national lottery.

As an SSF player you shouldn't be looking or expecting to play/design builds with hard to obtain build defining uniques anyway because most likely you won't be able to get them, that's just what you have to accept if you pick the far less popular mode to play. If one happens to drop then you can use or make a build around it.

I would say that the odds of winning the lottery are actually a few orders of magnitudes more likely. :P

SSF is a challenge. It was implemented after people played that way, but couldn't rely on the name reflecting that. There were even screenshots of the SSF_playername chars asking to trade. So SSF was added as league-flag. That's why it doesn't have altered drop rates.

And as SSF can migrate to non-SSF, there can't be more favorable odds, as people would farm SSF and sell in non-SSF.

That being said, SSF is about lengthening the progression and testing your game knowledge. Cold Iron Point is the only chance-able outcome on Ezomyte Daggers (the Replica can't be chanced), so that can be one way of targetting the unique. Alter you item filter to highlight those bases.

IT took me over 1350 hours in this game to chance my first unique from an Orb of Chance, and I don't use them that often.
I wouldn't imagine the odds are good enough that it wouldn't take less than 50 hours. :P

I remember taking around 460 orbs of chance to make my 6L bow from "The Porcupines" into a "Quill Rain" a few years back in SSF. It's tedious, but if you want an item that you can target, you'll adapt or suffer. Or adapt and suffer, depending on the success rate.

Believe me I've chanced hundred of Ezo daggers at this point yet none of them rolled this league. Either my luck or I'm not buying enough loot boxes.
Ofc I'd never let SSF migrate to trade league, I'm just a bit surprised of GGG not really showing it any love and still heavily/only patching around trade league even though, from what I've seen, SSF is quite popular. Yet we have Chris and his "philosophy" saying that HC SSF is the way POE is actually meant to be played.
But I digress. There's an issue with the drop pool as it stands. Every single rare drop is trash, Uniques don't really feel like Uniques anymore and may God help those poor souls new to the game that don't have an item filter. (I am however glad that GGG is working on these things, POE2 will hopefully solve this)

You have tried using all available Gwennen currency to buy Ezomite daggers aswell? She is kinda a op chance orb. This league is probably the best to get rare unis for a second ssf build.

Cold Iron Point might be classed as a Tier 1 Unique, which means it's extremely rare as all hell.

There's no reason GGG would ever have to adjust the drop rates of SSF, it would be an extremely terrible idea.

I have, unfortunately she only rolled the daggers like 8-9 times. I've been even metamorph farming Valdo with full hoarder chromium stones yet no luck. I squeezed out 2 headhunters though.
But yea, I did not build around Cold Iron Point, I steamrolled the whole content with popcorn srs, I was just hoping to get one of the daggers for an alt.

I don't think anyone knows this. Not even GGG themselves considering how spaghetti their code is. But I also don't think it's "extremely rare" since it sell for what 20-30c? Odds are just unfavorable for solo play since it gets diluted in a vast sea of "Uniques" that are in the core drop pool.

No. No. THere are literally uniques that are rarer than other uniques. Headhunter is one of them.

Mjolnr is another one.
THere a lot of code of this game that people actually do understand.

It makes no sense to claim that no one knows the code when it's well known there's an entire website dedicated to looking through the code and showing off the information of various things.

Headhunter is the most valuable Tier 1 unique.

You basically won the lottery twice.
So, I wouldn't worry about Cold Iron Point. It just may never happen simply due to random chance, or you using up your luck. :P

Well ♥♥♥♥, I better start rubbing my orbs on people in Act 1 then. 4 days left, wish me luck.
But I do know that Uniques have different weights. What I mean about nobody really knowing are the actually drop % numbers. Those are never disclosed, so nobody really knows if Iron Point would fall in the same category as HH or not.

Probably yes, It was just an example of how unlikely it is though.

Fair point. It is indeed unlikely to an extreme.
Rinko Oct 10, 2021 @ 1:36pm
Just migrate and do a single trade, play psuedo-SSF. No one is going to care if you're flagged for SSF or not.
Pan Darius Cassandra (Banned) Oct 10, 2021 @ 1:56pm
SSF should have better drop rates and not be transferrable to standard mode.
