Also usually depending on if you use 1 or 2, 6-socket/link skill setups you end up using one skill as your main damage source anyways. But alot of builds even though using one damage skill primarely do use varying amounts of other skills like movement skills or temporary buffs to compliment their build/playstyle instead of calling it a "one button spam".
Otherwise it is also based on which skill you use, since people tend to gravitate to play the most "viable/meta" build at the time usually revolves around being a skill with "broken or overpowered factors" where the skill can both be good at single target and area of effect resulting in needing to press "one button" as damage source.
In another scenario you could end up using a skill that is good at single target but suck at area of effect damage, therefore forcing you to use a second skill who specialises in area of effect damage or vice versa. Thus being a "two button" build at minimum :)
So my question to you OP is, how would you like to play this game? It is possible to play a build where you use 8 buttons actively (not counting flask hotkeys) to then be effective tackling endgame scenarios but the question is rather despite you liking it or not if this is really efficient and a sign for a bad build/skill or not.
You need to stop watching bad steamers then you wouldn’t have such a messed up idea of how the game is played.
Bad streamers ? These players are wiping top level dungeons using one button. They're hardly bad.
Most YouTube max characters are just one button spamming their way through the map.
If you wanna press even more buttons though theres options. Like I said im playing tectonic slam and I'm buffing myself with 2 warcrys while attacking and using a third warcry to heal myself and i keep them all up as much as possible for endurance charges. Just do some research and you will find the builds you seek to fit your needs
There is always 1 source link of main damage in every build is what he means. other skills are just by-product damage additions that can increase the main damage further when it isn't required.
I run a carrion aura necro and all I do is run around in fully juiced maps with no flasks and just pop vaal haste sometimes. The minions do the work and I am tanky enough from auras and high ES.
The main issue right now is you can only 6 link 2 skills, so those will always be your "main" skills and anything else are support skills or auras.
Hopefully with PoE 2.0. and the change to how links work, we are gonna see more variety in skill builds and more "Hybrid" builds that use 6 links you normally wouldn't.
Flask Macros are a thing, set it and forget it. Most top tier builds can be played by just pushing play on flask macro and holding left mouse button down and w keying movement skill.
Exactly what I'm seeing. Sounds like fun.. not. I'll wait for Diablo 4 I guess.
