You can already play with only friends if you want, as there is no open world or anything, so that point is just to hope streamers or big youtubers make their own servers and need to pay for more time/space.
How many average players are going to pay $12 for 10 days (or $30 for 40 days) just to make the game harder? It won't break PoE right now or anything, it just seems stupid in my mind unless I'm missing something major.
But it will help them get cash from the previously mentioned folks, so whatever. I'm not renting one =P
Edit: Also since there is a crowdsource funding it will ABSOLUTELY be paid for by people who watch streamers anyway, so there's that.
But i have zero issues with it. People have been asking for a while, and it has been promised forever. It's basically the group SSF people keep clamoring for, great for groups of friends, or streamers and their viewers, but fo the average player, pretty meh.
And I do think, as the idea progresses, will we see more league modifiers you can select. And eventually, sure, some will make the game easier, more item quanity, more rarity, old leagues (like legacy) brought back, ect. I have no problem with it, people are paying for it, let them have it. Just seperate the modifiers into red(harder) buffs, and green(easier) buffs, and if a green is taken, the league get's voided at completion, IE, it goes poof, all drops/characters are gone, no migration to standard, so no harm to standard.
Tencent rewrote history. That never happened. Its all fake! No one ever wanted this!
I don't think that anyone is opposed to people being able to play private leagues as long as the modifiers have no effect on drops / xp - but if they do then they should never get merged with the official servers again, once the private league ends. Meaning they should not be put in standard.
I kind of agree with OP, once I read that announcement the first thing that came to my mind was "they won't leave it at that". My guess is you will eventually have private leagues with modifiers like "every zone has an abyssal depth", "every zone has 3 extra harbingers" that you can buy for money. Meaning you basically buy Zana mods for actual money and not in-game currency and then end up in standard and at that point a P2W mechanic is basically born. You have people that spend real money on getting in-game items (through buying "Zana mods") mixed together with people who did not. My guess is that they certainly won't introduce this overnight but rather very slowly ease people into it. This "private league" thing certainly sounds like the first step in such a move. P2W is very popular with the Chinese community and with Tencent recently getting more involved I was expecting something like this to happen. I understand that "people were asking for this" but as I said, P2W is really popular in China so yes... people probably were asking for it but I don't think that makes it right. However of course it's completely up to GGG how they want to develop their game and not up to me. From a market perspective it would probably draw in a larger crowd and even make it more popular if they added these things so why wouldn't they? I always have the option to move onto another game if I don't like it anymore but ye that's my opinion on the whole thing.
Exactly. I'm just moving on now before i waste more time.
"Players in a private league are able to voluntarily migrate their characters (or their entire league state) out to the parent league, just like with regular SSF leagues. Because these private leagues only make the game harder, this presents no fairness issues to the economies that they are moving their characters into. "
I guess there is 1 less cretin in poe world which is a good thing
