Depends on what exactly you mean by addon...

The very basics is an item filter as add-in or config file or however you want to define it. Neversink's is popular and good.

External applications as overlay is like one of {awakened poe trademacro, poe-overlay-communityfork, ...} to check the price of items.

External programs would be
Path of Building community fork for planning builds
Browser with custom searchengines for the poe-wiki and poedb.
Also bookmark grinding.zone it has some relevant links for PoE

Plus it (the community version) is open source, makes it at least a bit more trustworthy. (Queue "reproducable builds" debate)
