Depends on what you value more (and what exactly your setup is)... as with many other things in tech, it has pros and cons:

The Vulkan renderer will not magically make your graphics card perform better than it previously did, but it will make performance a lot more consistent. This means that your peak frame rate will not increase, but you won't have anywhere near as many unpredictable spikes that were making the game feel stuttery and reducing average frame rate. Basically, this new renderer gives us complete control over how resources are managed, so we can tune it for Path of Exile's exact requirements.

On many systems, this renderer is actually marginally slower than the DirectX11 one at the moment. This is something we can easily improve over the coming weeks (and aim to by the release of 3.11). Basically, Vulkan gives you a much better framework for making optimisations, and we have barely begun to scratch the surface of this. You may find that even in its marginally-slower state, the significant frame rate stability difference makes it worth using. But the main goal at the moment is stability testing while we work on getting the frame rate as fast as possible through optimisation.

You have to enable Vulkan before logging into the server--once the game is launched, the option will be greyed out. Use the options button on the launcher to toggle between Vulkan/Direct X 11.

On my system I see poorer performance with Vulkan, so I suspect high end systems (which likely don't have problems running the game anyway) will not see as much benefit as lower end systems and systems with older hardware that still are capable of supporting Vulkan.

For me having it on is better. More consistent performance. Can use some vanity settings with no drawback. Really it is not hard to just try it out for yourself.

You won't get the same gains, but take in account he's streaming/recording
Dont get me wrong, i think vulcan is great for poe but this video is fake. 8700k and 1080ti but he cant even old 30fps in his hideout with dx11 (while only on high settings without global illumination). For real comparison i get arround 450fps with same resoltion, same settings and nearly same hardware on dx11 in my hideout. Streaming doesnt count at all because with x264 you lose 0 fps and with nvenc maybe 5-10fps. Still vulcan is great for much better stable fps.

Can you stream in 1080p60 while local recording, with dx11 then vulkan in high density situations and link me the vods of your stream? Appreciated.
First if you stream with x264 it cost only cpu usage. Even if your preset is too high and your cpu is overloaded it would never drop your fps from 450 on 30 or lower because of it! In this case his stream would lag like hell.
2nd straming with new nvenc codec cost only a few fps even 1080p 60fps and would never drop your fps from 450 to 30 or lower.
What do you mean with "high density situations"? He has <30 fps in his hideout already with a 8700k and 1080ti. This is wrong on every level no matter his streaming/recording settings.

Again vulcan is great! Only this comarison is wrong.

I agree with dOBER--I run a 6850k CPU and GTX Titan X GPU (slightly weaker CPU to 8700k and equivalent GPU to 1080Ti) and without limiting framerates I run 400-450 fps @ 1440p on DX11. Running 30 fps while idling in game means something is not set up correctly in the display options. I choose to limit framerates to 144 to match my monitor because it lowers my GPU temps from ~80 C to ~60 C--why beat up my hardware for performance I won't really notice? Vulkan doesn't work well for me but as you can see I don't need it right now, but I am sure it works wonders for older/weaker hardware.

What gives you the best performance?
It's simple, I get the best from Vulkan.
Rat Scabies Jun 10, 2020 @ 8:20am
You should be looking at the development kits they use.
