Does "Attack Skills" apply to totems?
Take for example the passive skill tree node "Lava Lash" that says: "30% Increased Fire Damage with Attack Skills". My question is, does that apply to my summoned totems, assuming that the totems deal fire damage themselves beforehand?

Not quite. Attacks are abilities with the 'attack' tag. Alot of attacks are melee, but there are just as many that are ranged. Lacerate is ranged, the majority of bow skills are ranged, etc. If the ability has an attack tag, its an attack, regardless of it being melee or ranged.

Attack scale by weapon, spells scale by level.

the only specific way to take advantage of Lava Lash or other Elemental Damage with Attacks type nodes with totems is to use the Ranged Attack Totem Support, linked with something like Blast Rain.

Otherwise, totems use your stats to cast their skills, and are affected normally by things like Spell Damage, Cast Speed etc, but not by increases to life or armour.

They also cannot normally leech life back to you (they leech to heal themselves instead) and likewise reflected damage hits them and not you.

This is incorrect. First lacerate is melee, just because it has a high attack range for a melee, doesn't mean it's not melee, melee nodes affect it.

Second there is no "ranged" tag. There are only melee and bow tags (as subtype of the attack tag). Other tags are neutral (like the projectile and aoe tags) and just follow the general "Attack" tag. This is why wand skills like power siphon only have the attack and projectile tags, there is no wand tag, just a weapon restriction. There are also 2 part skills like frost blades that have a melee first part and a projectile second part, with their own damage.

Now moving to totems, the only totems that can "attack" are the ballista totem (which is a bow skill), the ancestral warchief and protector (which are melee skills) and the ranged attack totem support that transform any gem that can use a bow or wand (including skills that have no weapon restriction whatsoever like frenzy or elemental hit) into a totem that fires the same skill.
To use these totems you need to wield the corresponding weapon type, because your weapon is used for the base damage of the totem. So for ballista you need a bow, warchief needs a melee weapon etc.

All other totems are spells.

No idea what you mean by the 2nd paragraph. I never claimed there was a ranged tag.
