Arc chain distance could be increased with area of effect
Title. Now that the distance has been nerfed to half, we should be able to increase it with area of effect. Arc builds probably don't take a lot if any area nodes on the passive tree nor from gear. Except if you get Pendulum of Destruction as Elementalist. So you would still have to invest in it thus making it fair.

the range of the chain is not the same as AOE

the range defines the maximum distance something could work and for AOE perks or gems you will need to have AOE in the first place. and arc has no AOE.

Yes I know, but that is why I commented here in the first place.
It could have, exactly for increasing the useful range of the chain.

Why? It just means that Arc won't jump 2-3 packs but it will still destroy a pack of mobs at a time. Also, because the arc stays in the pack you are casting into, the rare enemies in it actually get hit more. This is a buff.

The jump distance was broken as hell and it will not be made possible again. They have said that they want to reduce overall offscreening of skills and this is exactly it.

There no justification for giving the aoe trait to arc. Just as there is no justification to add a projectile trait to arc. Giving a trait involves more than just range, there is coding behind, functions that calculate what mob is caught in the aoe, but what aoe ? arc is single target, so the aoe of arc is actually 0, and the range is a hit range, like the weapon range for attacks, changing that would require a complete rework of the skill. It's not as simple as it looks.

They nerfed the range to nerf the range, they want you to be closer, because arc is a beast of a skill, it does a lot of damage, never misses and doesn't need any aim.

It's sad but it's the truth.

It's not the "range" as in the distance measured by area of effect , it's the number of mobs that the arc can chain to... It just affect the clear speed for densely population map where the groups are cluster closer together and the arc can jumps all the way up to 3 or 4 screens away.

The cast speed boost and slight damage nerf balance out, so it's still very viable for self-cast or totems. Triggers like Traps, etc suffers damage nerf but you already do a ton of burst damage so it's still usable.

No, it was nerfed becuase it was clearing multiple screens worth of mobs, that ♥♥♥♥ got whacked and rightfully so, they are not going to allow you to buff it again.
