Why are the classes still gender locked?

Seriously in this day and age why does this game still gender lock classes? People say that this game is better than Diablo 3 but atleast that game doesn't gender lock classes and is fun to play. Even Grim Dawn an indie game doesn't gender lock classes. This is the main reason why me and my friends will never play this POE.

Because the "classes" aren't classes. They are characters.

Ascendancy, ascendancy perks and your pick of skill gems create the class.

Overall a rather petty reason to not give PoE a try.

Not sure how much of the game you have played so far, but if you get a few acts into the game, you access a new character to play as who is female and can quite literally do everything. You could easily make her into a warrior.

Long explanation short, you're playing through that character's story, not your own story. You're not playing as 'A Marauder', you're playing as 'The Marauder'.

Scion makes a fine warrior type, Ranger too.
You're missing out on a whole lot of game for a problem that doesn't really exist.
I would also like male and female versions of each character but I'm loving PoE anyway.

Well, it would take no effort to program a choice to let people choose the character and the starting point/ascendancy separately.

Marauder was actually a girl back in the tiny-island-place-thing but due to the power of Haku she has gained sick abs, a much deeper voice, and body hairs. That's why my marauder stabbed Haku in the face everytime I saw Haku in Betrayal league. (The abs say stay tho.) Do you even lore? /s

the first part makes no sense because you would need female counterparts in look and co too which is far away from "takes no effort"
and the second part makes no sense because it destroys the whole game design

Hu? Of course it makes sense.

Let the player pick his character model as it is like now and then pick whatever start you want (with the corresponding ascendancy). You would literally just use for example the witch model and start as a marauder (and for gameplay reasons are technically a marauder, just not the model).
