#2 what you should keep in mind, that is far easier to color an ES item blue than to an armor item blue. in the first case the blue sockets is the default color of the item, in the second case you trying to get offcolors, which needs on average far more chroms for rerolling.
you can also see it on the attribute requirements. if the item only require you to have high INT you have very likely blue sockets on it. if the item requires STR and DEX then you have more likely red and green sockets on it.
#3 if you cant find anything helpful, you can also trade from with players https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Betrayal
The chances for getting the correct color is dependant on the required attribute of wearing that gear. E.g INT gear tends to get blue sockets, DEX green, STR red, hybrid INT STR will get a mix of blue and red, so on.
Later you'll find crafting recipe to force some colors, you use that with a combo of changing number of sockets with jewelry orbs. E.g you want BBGG on a INT gear, so you roll BB first with 2 sockets and re-craft to 3 sockets, it can BBG, BBB or BBR. If it's not BB"G" re-craft back to 2 sockets to BB and then try 3 sockets again. Repeats same process for 3->4 sockets. You can check out socket crafting for poe on youtube.
dont waste too many materials this early if you can help it just use whatever drops and roll with it :)
