Question about armor and sockets
I'm new to the game and I'm really loving it so far. Currently I'm lvl 39 and just got my necromancer class/ascension.

The only thing I struggle with is getting armor (or not knowing how to get the right armor) for the gems I use. For example I need a piece with blue-blue-blue-green and Blue-green-red. But I never encountered the right armor/socket combination. I tried to use the items to change the colors of the sockets but lost all 25 I had cause I never got the results I wanted.

So am I just unlucky with drops etc? Or do I need to do something else. Vendors never seem have the right pieces either.

***I do need to add that I know nothing about crafting, but I do have it available to me in my hideout.

Thanks in advance!

#1 sometimes it can help to buy a white item from the armor NPC and craft it (essence, random alch orb, fossils), than waiting for a drop. especiually if you are playing in betrayal league you have a lot of crafting options available to you on the bench.

#2 what you should keep in mind, that is far easier to color an ES item blue than to an armor item blue. in the first case the blue sockets is the default color of the item, in the second case you trying to get offcolors, which needs on average far more chroms for rerolling.

you can also see it on the attribute requirements. if the item only require you to have high INT you have very likely blue sockets on it. if the item requires STR and DEX then you have more likely red and green sockets on it.

#3 if you cant find anything helpful, you can also trade from with players https://www.pathofexile.com/trade/search/Betrayal

Usually the colors of sockets depend on the armor's attribute requirement. For example, a piece of chest armor that requires 70 strength to equip has a high chance of rolling red sockets with your chromatic orbs. In other words, rolling multiple off colors(such as all blues) would be extremely difficult. Vorichi may be a better option when it comes to this, since has some crafts that will increase the chance of getting your desired colors.

You are still early level to be bothered with gear, any gear with correct sockets prior to act 6 as long as you find damage related gear. Gear dropped will also be less than 4 sockets at your level...

The chances for getting the correct color is dependant on the required attribute of wearing that gear. E.g INT gear tends to get blue sockets, DEX green, STR red, hybrid INT STR will get a mix of blue and red, so on.

Later you'll find crafting recipe to force some colors, you use that with a combo of changing number of sockets with jewelry orbs. E.g you want BBGG on a INT gear, so you roll BB first with 2 sockets and re-craft to 3 sockets, it can BBG, BBB or BBR. If it's not BB"G" re-craft back to 2 sockets to BB and then try 3 sockets again. Repeats same process for 3->4 sockets. You can check out socket crafting for poe on youtube.

Nah Rogue, 4 sockets is item lvl 25, he should be able to find 5 socket items, and then there's additional sockets from strongboxes.

I'm finding 4 sockets item's just in the wrong colours. :steamfacepalm: I didn't know about the sockets being influenced by the item requirements. Str. Etc

if you pick up every piece of equipment with a green-red-blue link you can sell to vendors for 1x chromatic orb which should help you mass them.

dont waste too many materials this early if you can help it just use whatever drops and roll with it :)
