Your authentication for instance transfer was invalid.
Whenever I want to log into PoE with one of my characters I get that message at least once or twice before it lets me connect to a server on the 2nd or 3rd try. What does it mean and why do I get it all the time?

Edit:
Actually I now realize its a consistent pattern every time:

1. On the first try it gives me the authentication error after staying on the "connecting" screen for a bit.

2. On the second try it will put me into the loading screen (the one with a picture in it) but then place me back into the log-in screen with the error message "An unexpected disconnection occured"

3. On the 3rd try it usually works.

But then sometimes when I switch zones (especially when going into a town) PoE randomly disconnects me and I have to go through the whole thing again. On top of that it randomly freezes and crashes sometimes (no lagspike, no fps drops, just freeze and crash).

Had a similar problem, my solution was to restart the game if it failed the first time, has worked so far.

does completely reinstalling poe do anything?
If you have a SSD, install the game on that. I had the exact same problem for the longest time before it eventually just stopped letting me play period. I put the game on my SSD and I no longer have any problems loading in.

This is a fairly common issue it seems, and everyone just restarts the program, but it would be nice if the issue was fixed so that you don't have to restart it 2-3 times to get in to play.

If I restart after the authentication error Im still gonna get the "unexpected disconnection" thing on the second try. Its always the same pattern, regardless wether or not I restart the game.

Also, the game *should* work just fine. I just checked the recommended system requirements and I definitely meet those requirements. Enough Ram (8gb), good enough CPU (i5-4460) and GPU (GTX 960), enough storage and stable connection. So why does it keep disconnecting and crashing.

at this point PoE has become literally unplayable. Half the time I spend playing this game is me trying to connect to the servers.

I think they expanded the game too much before making it actually work. I refuse to believe that this game isn't just in a perpetual state of early access.

Its becaue its trying to preload stuff in the background. When you try to login immediately it hasn't loaded everything in yet and will frequently error out. Let it sit on the character selection screen for a minute or so then log in and you shouldn't get any errors, or at least I don't.

This solved the authentication error, but I will still have to try to connect at least twice because theres still the second issue (loading screen with artwork and then disconnect). Also, it still randomly disconnects me when I switch zones.

This is so frustrating because I really wanna play the game. Its genuine fun. But for some reason it just wont let me.

Game not playable at that moment... disconnections on loading screens very often. There is mass of other games around, what's the point to bother with broken game? Developers mast be very naive thinking that they will get away with not fixing it for so long and ignoring totally the problem.

Reduce the load on your computer.
Turn down settings.
Turn off things like shadows and engine multithreading.

The problem is rarely on the games end, its mostly on YOUR end. The "well only THIS game does it" argument also doesnt fly - PoE uses different resources than, say, D3.
