Skill Tree is overrated?
People say the skill tree is expansive and offers a lot of customization but from what I see it's 95% passive stats and 5% unique building. Am I missing something or are the ones praising the tree end game elitist who value + 3 STR more than a new skill? :steamfacepalm:

Considering actually skills are gems, the passive skill tree is the most intricate I've ever experience in an arpg. If you know what skills compliment which abilities, then you've opened up a whole new experience and way to play the game.

It's called a Passive Tree in-game, not a skill tree. The skills are in item form instead, in the form of Skill Gems, which get socketed into your equipment.

Is there a list of pets for the Witch in game? I don't see it on the Wiki and the skill tree has nothing at all

Look up Skill Gems, those are where you'll find the "skills" to summon your pets.

In Path of Exile, a skill or a skill tree node by itself is not worth much. Its about synergies.

I could literally go on a ramble for hrs and hrs trying to explain it, but you've just started your PoE journey. Just play the game, trust me, you'll get it as you play. It will take a while, a long while, but gradually you'll hit that 'poe way of thinking and build making' and it will all just click.

Also, its worth noting that in PoE, every class can use every skill. Pets, which I assume you're refering to summons - are called minions, and they're categorised as minion gems. Just search for 'Minions' and you should find what you're searching for.

The passive skill tree is what replaces the level up stats in other games.Like when in say, diablo, you would up str, int, dex, vit, in poe you pick a passive node.

That's it.

Maybe you should just try it?

Totally overrated.
Just pick a skill you want to spam as your main skill and pick stuff from the tree that is increasing dmg for said skill + some life and special passive abilities, there is really nothing special about it, they just made it look good.

It's mostly just generic +life +mana +armor +physical damage +spell damage basically. There's like 15-20 or so nodes that actually have an impact on your gameplay.

Yeah it is overrated. You go for the same paths everytime. Little customization.

Zombies, Skeletons, Spectres, Golems.

Sentinels from Herald of Purity and Dominating Blow.

Some are temporary like Sentinels and Skeletons. With some builds you can fill the screen with minions if you want.

I don't think it's over rated, just miss-understood. If anything it's too complexed, and potentially daunting, when you see the skill tree for the first time.

The thing is, it allows classes to take enhancements outside of their specialisation, so you can have a Witch character, putting points into enhancements outside of her sphere, in a warrior's sphere for instance.

What bothers me, is that all classes can "potentially" be the same, because they can all use each others enhancements.

I do wonder if it would be better to isolate all of the classes, so that there are no cross overs between skill trees, but then, you would have the obvious problem of classes like the Witch, having no way to increase either strength or dexterity.

On the other hand, it feels odd having a warrior class that can use dual flame totems etc.

^ ascendancies address this as they are unique to each class

It's still the deepest customization tool in any ARPG ever though. So I'm not sure how 'overrated' applies when there's nothing better out there.
