Up to you, dual wield are faster and thus more responsive. Of course you have to make sure you have a good pair of weapons aka depending on build... E.g A pair of nebuloch maces or a pair of specially crafted high atk speed swords.

Of course there's one hander build like brutus lead sprinkler mace and shield,. There's even a 2 hander build using onigoroshi...

Most people use maces and swords. Swords are those with fast base atk speed like a foil or rapier..

Im trying to make my own build and i have no idea what kind of weapons exist , i know i want to go dual wield but not sure if it matters if i go swords or axes or as you said maces as well , i personally like axes more in games, i just want to make sure that if i pick axes i wont be in a disadvantage right away.

Is it a problem to make a build for myself with a skill i want as a new player who never reached act 3 ? i have no idea what kind of weapons there are in the late game in general.

swords require much more DEX than axes. if going as a strength build, axes are easier.

do yourself a huge favor...for every hour of gameplay, spend an hour researching PoE build guides online, and general info in the PoE Wiki. otherwise you'll never learn all the stuff you need to know to enjoy this game. right now you're blind and stumbling around in the dark.

Oni isn't a 2hander, tho. It's a 1h weapon with 6l that occupies both hand slots.

depends on your build and char too , Axe more damages but less crit, go Axe if you take RT and EO, go sword if you aim for crit and accuracy

End up being a 2 hander since both slots are taken.

No it's not the same, oni is a one handed sword that locks the offhand, it's not a 2handed weapon, you are still using 1handed passives with it.

Yeah skill tree it's one handed, but for inventory purposes it's a 2 hander.
