better and worse are tough calls in poe since so much depends on what exactly you do with the skill and what you are looking for from it.

smite seems to be tuned pretty well and is viable for just about anything you can throw at it so if you want to try it you arent gimping yourself out of the gate.

ok thanks i did hear that static strike got a buff so i might try both
but whats so special about smite what does it do

i wouldnt say its special its just a new skill so it might seem like its a little more popular right now. it has pretty solid aoe and single target so you dont need to switch gems or have a separate clear skill.

If we talk about effects. Smite is kind of the melee attack version of storm call and static strike the melee attack version of arc.
So it's more about how you want to build around.

Also, you "heard" static strike got a buff. No, static striek got a rework, it's not the same skill it used to be, it has a completely different effect now. before it was like the melee version of shock nova, now it's the melee version of arc. It's lauching lightning bolts that can chain (although with a default chain of 0, so you need chain support) when you move and you charge the buff when you attack.

The real answer here is to support Static Strike with Multistrike, use it as you would use a Fortify skill (potentially supporting it with Fortify to make it simpler), and then using a repeatable skill the rest of the time (Smite, Cyclone, whatever)

Don't assume you should only use one skill. I personally loathe 1-click and 0-click builds

as i currently use smite, smite seams to be way to op for being a aoe skill that hits 2 locations, so its prob going to be nerfed together with consecrated path.

smite hits 2 locations with smal aoe, usually only hits 2-3 enemies, one where you swing and one as a "smite" from the hevens (hence its name) within a small area around you. enemies can only be hit by one of the two attacks. however i do think the "smite" cuased by ancestral call can stack, but not tried it. after the first attack you a gain a buff that gives added lightning dmg to all your attacks, inc other skills.

smite should be used with multistrike in order to get a good use of the extra added dmg.

clearing wise consecrated path is your best skill if your going elemental build, since its literely flickerstrike + ice crash, that gives concecrated ground and dosnt cost frenzy charges.

for single target i dont know if smite is actually the best, but the build im going for is gonna end with 1.9mil dps, with a 4.3mil top dps. the build is worth multiple ex but you can get like 400-500k dps for a cheaper build.

I'm also using storm call which is beast combined with static strike I also have two passives going on and a holy relic I'll have to go in game to remember the names of the passives
