Fix for newcomers about fps drops/spikes/stuttering
---------------------------//-------------------------------------//-------------------------------
[A quick update 04/02/2020]

For some time now, i've been using this program called Intelligent standby list cleaner ISLC to clean some garbage inside the ram when running bad optimized games and... the changes are big, big enought to put here on this old thread, if you are using a SSD, using predicted networking, even disabling sound and still have a lot of lagspikes (high noticeable on a summonner build or a build with a lot of projectiles on late game) i insist, try using ISLC, dont change any configuration, just turn on and go, remember to tick the [START] button and play some PoE with all the fixes from above, if helps please say so in the comments , if not, say too, so i can understand for what kind of hardware it helps. Cheers!

---------------------------//-------------------------------------//-------------------------------
[The Fix]

Hello guys, i see a lot of people "new ones" have fps problems, their fps is good but for some reason there is a lot of lag spike, stuttering and fps drops every second. Its simple, its your connection to the server.

First the fix, see if helps you: the constant framedrops are because of internet, tap F1 to see ping + fps, you will notice the fps and the ping in this game affect earch other if you use lockstep. Change the networking (inside UI settings before selecting a character) from locksteck/auto to predicted and see if helps.

The thing is, PoE have two sync networks, lockstep is live, if your connection is not STABLE REALY STABLE the game will microshut and wait your computer sync with the server, while in predict the client will simulate what happens before syncyng with the server so you will not get instant fps drops because the game is not freezing to catch the server.

I hope this solve a lot of problems.

---------------------------//-------------------------------------//-------------------------------
[Low framerate at all?]

Other setting that is giving a LOT of constant fps drop is the new: Shadows + GI Quality. In ultra setting i get 30 fps at max, but if i change it to high my fps will skyrocket to 90 stable fps.

Try chaging texture to medium, lowering shadow from + GI to Standard shadow, low some configs, if not, it might be your Virtual Memory is not proper configured, even if is, then the problem might be related to your power consumption is not enought for you computer or even bad HDD, try defrag your HDD and see if helps, if none of this helps, might be a problem related to windows or your driver, first try updating your drivers, if this not works, try this one as last resource (helped me alot on Conan Exiles lag spikes and i do have a geforce 1060, might help you on PoE): https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1004600/geforce-drivers/all-games-stuttering-with-fps-drops-since-windows-10-creators-update/266/

Here is my permanent solution/set it and forget it workaround for the creators memory issues (particularly with Frostbite games).

1. Download EmptyStandbyList and put it somewhere where you won't move it https://wj32.org/wp/software/empty-standby-list/

2. Right click > Properties and select Run as Admin under compatibility.
3. Open Task Scheduler > Create Task on the far right
4. General Tab (give it a name). Under security options > Change user or group > Advanced > Find Now > go down and choose SYSTEM (important to make it run silently in the background). Tick 'Run with highest privileges' and 'Hidden' at the bottom. Pictures here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6568736/how-do-i-set-a-windows-scheduled-task-to-run-in-the-background

5. Triggers tab > New > On a schedule > One Time. Tick repeat task every 5 minutes (possibly excessive but it causes no issues).
6. Actions tab > Start A program > Point to the EmptyStandbyList.exe file.
7. Done! Standby memory is automatically cleared every 5mins and BF1 especially will run smooth for hours!

---------------------------//-------------------------------------//-------------------------------
[The end]

Please if anything here helps you, do comment and let people know about these so your game will be playable, thanks and good game guys.

They should let us disable shadows in DX 11, but since they don't want the game to look ugly by disabling shadows and they also fear that when players think the game is ugly they won't play it, most people with humble GPUs that would run this game like a wind without shadows, have to suffer this Dev nosense.

A pity. Playing DX 9 is not an option. This game is so unoptimized that DX 9 can't simple allocate enough resource for the game to not slutter, even with DX 11 sometimes the game slutter like hell, because there are so many particles in your screen, that the software itself falls apart.

Shadows can't be disabled any longer [dx11] as they are rendered on the server and then streamed to your platform...

Another excuse they made? Because thats not what they said. Also, it was possible to disable shadows in DX 11, but they "fixed" it.

i get stutter all the time. does not matter if lockstep or predictive. it makes no difference. I cant think of any other online game where the performance is so bad. Wonder if it would play better if i dont play through steam?
Emiliorth Dec 8, 2018 @ 4:10pm
Nope, still 30 fps. Only on DX9 gives 60 fps cap

My System:

i5 4670k @4,2GHZ
16 GB Ram
GTX 970
Win 10 64bit

When there is much going on on the screen my Frames dropping hard.
Doesn´t matter if i play in Lockstep or Predictive Mode. (strong Rubberbanding with predictive)
Doesn´t matter if i Enable Vsync or not.

I have found no solution to this and i´m not the only one (look at the Forum)
Makes me very sad

Dont forget that dynamic resoultion graphics setting can have the game changing your resolution on the fly, which typically means when ♥♥♥♥♥ going crazy youll get a freeze as it lower resolution.

Turning it off reduced instances of the game hitching during play.

Thunderlight Dec 24, 2018 @ 6:27am
Dynamic Resolution is off
Here is a screen from a few sec ago: https://ibb.co/mX9XDY5

Frame Time Spikes and FPS Drops from hell :/

Send your video settings in-game please thunder? double-check if you are using Lockstep connection or Predicted and if it helps, the problem might be you just have too high settings for your GTX 970.

you ping dose not effect frame rate.

If you use lock step you may stutter because of latency or packet loss but FPS will be maintained (a good indicator to tell if it's lag or asset loading is, on the pigger pauses do you see animations continue to play like auras rotating or lightning sparking while the monsters stay still)

And IF you are lagging or having packet loss, switching your network mode dose not solve the the lag problem, and actualy introduces rubberbanding where the client and server are out of sync (which can be very out of sync) causing your character to "teleport" into monstrs you thought you ran past and you end up dying, or take you into rooms you have never been in becuase that door way you thought you ran through...well you didn't, you clipped it and went off somewhere else on the server, and when it syncs you don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ has happened.

IF you have latency, the the minimum, turn the router off at the socket and leave it for 5 minutes before trying again...then if the problem persists, run WinMTR to your gateway while you play with the lag to locate where exactly in the connection the problem occurs so you can contact the relevent people to actualy fix it.
