Plus this league the Soul Catcher flask allows using the vaal skill without expending all charges which result in more possible uses.
Also double strike and vaal double strike is pretty much the same animation, except the vaal version also summon a clone.
Well that works for certain vaal gems that store more than 1 use.
Basically, you kill enough things to collect enough souls for one more use before you use the 2nd use.
However, after each use, you cannot gain souls on the vaal skill until it's cooldown (soul gain prevention) timer runs out. So you gotta immediately gain enough souls to use it a 2nd time while the vaal skill is active.
Luckily, the vaal gems with more than 1 uses allows you to do just that. A single use vaal gem cannot be used for such playstyle unless you have the Incursion league's "Soul Catcher" quartz flask.
