Combining items in POE how is it done?

What I mean by the above is lets say I have 20 portals in one group and 10 in another, how do I manually combine them, something the game should be doing automatically when you pick up things by the way, but how is it done because multiple groups of the same thing are taking up space?

you mean with group the stacks?

portals stack up to 40. the only way which comes to my mind is when having multiple stacks tp scrolls in your inventar and you buy something from the NPC with the tp scrolls. then it take the items alternately from all stacks in the inventory

wow that is really inifficent programing on their part, a player should not have to carry multiple stacks of the same thing, items should be able to stack according to type automatically.

Trust me, you should never need to run around with 40 portal scrolls.

Scrolls/currency should automatically stack to their limit when you pick it up. If for some reason you need to combine stacks that aren't full, pick one up and set it on the other, they'll merge.

Ctrl click with your stash open will move items from inventory to stash and vice versa, and shift click will let you divide a stack of scrolls/orbs/whatever.

Different items stack in different quantities.

It's not about programming, it's about inventory management... and arguably about selling stash tabs.

I figured it had to do with some kind of money grab because to be honest there should be no limit on stacks, but i know what i'm going to do now with those extra stacks now that I know the game better:)

THat's not why, you can't buy character backpack storage.
