standard vs delve vs hardcore

so standard is the base game and delve is a temporary league, at the end of which your character/items/stats get transferred to standard? can you have more than one character in standard? i assume so since there is a new league every 3 months or so, or so i've read.

and what is the hardcore mode?

i'm currently playing in delve because when i began a game the menu said that it is the reccomended experience - but i am a little turned off by the fact that my character will only be playable in standard mode once delve is over. can a character created in a temp league be taken to hardcore?

there is delve hardcore
and delve softcore

delve hardcore characters go after 3 month to hardcore standart. or well if they die
delve softcore character go to standart after 3 months.

no you cant get your character from delve softcore to hardcore.

you will not play your character for the hole 3months while delve is running, trust me there. only a tiny fraction of the playerbase plays one single character for such a long time. there is always a new build to discover and building new characters is way more exciting for most players. but maybe you are the exception i don't know.

TL;DR - Just an explanation of how and what PoE leagues/storylines are (except PvP)

Rule 1:

Hardcore mode means -> death moves you to Standard League. No exception. No other League.

Rule 2:

Every league has a hardcore mode, standard/plain and leagues like delve (current) or flashback (soon).

Rule 3:

A Solo Self Found (SSF) league is one in which you cannot be helped by anyone (no party), nor can you trade. Characters here can be moved to their non-SSF counterpart. Eg, Softcore League SSF (non-hardcore mode of any league) can be moved to Softcore League ; same for Hardcore SSF, Hardcore League SSF and Softcore non-League SSF).

Rule 4:

The stash of these temporary leagues and those of flashback are moved into their Standard counterparts. There's 4 total counterparts :

• Standard / Softcore.
