I need better gear any tips

If I may be so bold, don't worry about gear yet. Learn the skills, learn the mechanics, learn the layout, learn the bosses. Watch youtube videos, read the forums, read redit. POE is not a sprint, it is a long drawn out grind fest....That's what you signed up for.

I agree with both posters. What league are you in and what constitutes bad gear for where you are in the game? Are you Solo Self Found, if not try going on one of the trade sites and get an item or two.

first off, i recommend watching some guides on YT, example - path of exile basics.... there are quite a few 10-30 min guides that will help u understand the basics, it'll be much easier after that...
In fact there are plenty of guides out there, for the builds, check the path of exile forum, or just google ''____(skill) 3.1 build'', or '' ____(class) 3.1 builds''

Thanks for this reply (and I am kind of in the same boat as the OP). I am also learning the game (have a 63-ish necro and find it depressing when I asked about gear and admitted to low HP/ES was basically told to reroll as at 60 you 'should have 5k HP or 7k ES'. (Admittedly my 1400HP/(now) 2200ES is low, but that is why I was seeking help.)

5k hp is a lot at 60. i use 300hp per act as a general rule of thumb. act 10 you want 3k minimum when you fight kitava.

also when leveling, trying to be hybrid is much harder. you usually have no sustain on your es so it melts instantly and you are basically just left to fight with a much smaller hp pool than you otherwise could have.

if you want to be hybrid or es at endgame it is usually easiest to switch around 68.

Hmm, okay. I have been trying to build up ES (I was happy when I finally got it > HP) and think about CI, but have read that is more for experienced players.

What is concidered 'sustain' for ES? I have been working to grab a lot of ES nodes in the passive tree, so the recharge rate is getting decent too (currently 670). I have been edging towards essence surge (if I head towards CI) for the quicker ES recharge start and Sovereignty for the reserve reduction (much closer to that one).

I forgot to mention earlier, I also have mind over matter so figure some of my mana pool is available as HP too. All over the place? Most likely, but it is a learning build!

usually leech with ghost reaver (which got a lot less good recently) or really high recharge, or really high life regen with zealots oath. the problem with recharge is it takes a second to kick in unless you go ham on it with a soul strike and whatnot.

well, this definitely gives me more to look into... if nothing else it is helping me learn some of the terminology! Thanks again. The only real difficulties I have had is on some boss fights (like the cruel lab...).

So far, if I get hit, I run around/avoid for a second and my ES is back to full. Thank goodness for the minions to keep things occupied in the meantime.

General rule of thumb is to get high life rolls (if you're using life and not all ES) and max out your three elemental resistances at all times late into the game (The cap being 75% default).

If you need anything, you can always give it a look for anything that may turn out very cheap at the time. You can always just keep an eye out for anything good on the ground. You never know when something good will just drop for you.

do all master missions that you see once you unlock 1 hideout they give you tables which will allow you to upgrade your gear slightly ie fix resist or life and dmg. if your gear has stat slots left ofcourse.
