So i've spent like 10mins looking at wikis and such looking for Scythes (which is my favorite weapon) and i've learned weapons are based on attributes of classes not actual classes themselves (strength, dex). I see scythes are a type of Two-Handed axe (which is disappointing) and i've seen that there are 2 classes with Str and Dex: Scion and Duelist. I want to play Scion and i'm prepared to play a character up to act 3 so I can get them, but can I go any path I want for her Ascendant and still use Two-Hand axe?

TLDR: I want Scion and need to know if I can pick any path (ex: Path of Witch) and still use Two-hand axes so I can use a scythe.

Any class can use any item - its just more difficult. For example, you would have to find nodes near the witch tree that provides enough str/dex to use the item (which wont be super easy). The reason Scion works, is that she is right in the middle of everything, so she can make anything work; jack of all trades master of none sort of situation.

Duelist is recommended because the grid splits str/dex at duelist (bottom of grid).

I dont know the stats on a scythe because I have never really done anything but shadow and witch, but if it needs strength with only a little dex, you could probably make any class near the strength side work. Essentially anything but Shadow probably. All that said, you could MOST LIKELY make any class work with enough effort.

Its just the stats and levels that are required. You can get that from gear as well. However, for magic, your weapon damage is not factored in; just something to consider.

I should also mention, the only scythes I 'know' of are unique (very rare). I am not sure a general scythe style weapon is a thing. If they do, im sure they exist in the axe class with just a scythe appearance.

With that in mind, it may be easier checking the store for a scythe cosmetic, and worry less about the build revolving around a specific type of weapon.

There are no scythes in the game you can build a character around. There are two unique axes that are scythes, they are both low level trash weapons. You "might" be able to do something with the harvest, it has scaling crit, but it likely wont be very effective. It used to be a semi-viable option before the potion recharge proc on it was nerfed.

Realistically if you want to use a scythe in this game you will have to spend real money on a skin transfer to make an actually useful weapon look like one of the scythe uniques.

A high roll blood reaper is pretty solid. Not best in slot, but if youre playing path of fashion its definitely usable.

But yeah if OP is looking for some scythe loli's thats not this game for sure.

the only Scythes in the game are "The Blood Reaper" or "The Harvest", and they are not end-game weapons. So, if you want to use a "scythe", you can alway buy a skin transfer on any Axes into the Scythe (which is cheap); otherwise, Diablo 3 you go

while there is some investment involved, you can use the low priced shop items to copy the scythe skin from one of the two axes mentioned and move it to your ideal axe, else no options come to mind.

Either way, I think you are only restricting yourself going in with a mindset that it has to be "this or that". The game might surprise you with cool stuff once you get into it.

If I do think about fashion it will probably be after i've "maxed" a character.

all of these:
# just playing blackhaired females (like in an other recent thread), or
# just playing scythes, or
# dislike actual gameplay choices, like certain classes, because of visual appealing

are just fashion choices. These types of choices, in the beginning, may work in games like Dark souls and skyrim because the choices dont have much impact on the gameplay. But this will not work in PoE

If this is your first 'playthrough' you might want to swing away from scion. Its way too confusing for new bloods.
