Remember back in Kaom's time, Kaom sided with Voll in the war against the gemlings. So the Karui can be reasoned with, even if they are a bit savage.
They should at least provide a lore reason to why you're butchering all of your own people. Back in Act 1 there were lore stones all over the map with the history of Kaom. I don't see any lore stones anymore.
Tell us that the Karui are back for vengeance, or have gone mad, or Tukohama is out for blood or something.
Do these Karui reject the history of Kaom?
I have no idea.
He properly described that the Old Gods are perverted and love to rage wars and conquer.
They do not care about Humanity and it's survival. They just care about their conquests and their battles.
It's for this reason, Sin asks you to "Pry their freedom from their cold dead hands".
They were Karui that gave up The Way just like Kaom did.
As the people lost trust over Kaom, the Hyrri took the sane back to Ngamakanui.
The insane, or rather the corruption in Wraeclast (for some reason) was Kitava's doing.
It was his "Black Spirits" that possessed the Karui and drove them crazy.
It possessed anyone and drove them crazy, it even waked the dead and rotten (skeletons).
I think what Malachai really did was allow Kitava's dreams to flood into Wraeclast. I don't think he had any imagination for inciting a proper cataclysm. It was all Kitava's thought, his view of how the world should end.
Malachai really only edited this "thought" and made it so that humanity would weaken terribly and he be able to fashion his Immortality and his Empire over the ruins of the Templar Empire ; the shortest Empire of all time (Voll's Empire of Purity).
