Standalone Client Performance is better
anyone know why the game run better on the standalone client ? When i play throught steam not only it take forever to launch the game but i encounter massive fps drop and lag spike when logging in town which is not happening on the standalone also it feel overall better on the standalone.

Try disabled the steam overlay for the game see if that changes anything, should be the only thing different between the two

Might be steam overlay, or other stuff.

Standalone runs 20x better than the steam version for me.

I turned off steam overlay and it didn't change anything here. Gonna try the standalone version soon.

No there are more "hidden" things on the steam client then there would be on the standalone client.

Think of it like this > You launch up the game via steam and even tho you disable the overlay the game is still hooked onto steams servers for you to gain achievements and yada yada, it might be a tad bit more demanding to run cause of it if your computer aint that great.
However I tried both clients back in legacy league without noticing anything major between the two clients that would cause me to prefer one over the other.

Only reason I use the steam client is because its alot more conveniant for me to have the game on steam and I enjoy watching my hours rise.

Have used both and both work the same for performance.

No difference, I have both installed.

Oh sure...

It doesn't make any sense that some people say it performs better and others say there's no difference. I would like to see some proof of it working better. As far as I know it has never really been validated.

Of course there isnt. The only difference is the steam injection into your poe client when using steam but im 99% sure it does not affect performance what so ever.

Only thing on steam that can affect performance is steam overlay and even then you would have to play on a toaster for that to happend.

Nodoka is right. Game build is always the same. The only difference is Steam overlay injection and how Steam handles updates. That's it.

Except that when the OP is talking about performance he isn't talking about the game patching.
Hehe.. have to aggree with Nodoka. I have both but I use steam client instead cause I dont see any significance difference
BUT take note..
I use overlay solely for FPS counter.
I dont have a large friends list (matter of fact friendlist is off)
I have a dedicated SSD for steam
Decent puter 970GTX i7 win7(do not keep anything running in the BG except steam ofcourse..)
I use F1(lat/lag/ping info) on both clients and have not see or tell any diff.
I play on peak times and non peak times.
PoE has never crashed on me yet on both.
My only complaint is I sometimes press shift+tab while playing and overplay pops up.. hehe
and 1 second longer to start/loading the game cause well steam injects said apps.
EDIT: steam apps updates are set on que

Times I do notice something BUT on both clients equally.
Enter a city full of players with cosmetics. I do get tiny spike.
Sometimes my first attack/cast etc animation i get a tiny lag spike.
I get the same russian voice acting from Lady Dialla on both cleints.. hehe.. not-cockroach

EDIT2: I DO NOT USE ANY MODS/TOOLS OR FILTERS.. yet.. so pretty much clean PoE
