Level 45 item, 6 socket possible ?

Hello, i got a level 45 2-handed rod and i was wondering if i can upgrade it to 6 socket ?

Based on items for sale on PoE trade, I would assume yes. Unless its really good, I would probably wait though, as it may take a LOT of orbs to get it to 6s and/or 6l

item sockets depend on the item level of the item. you need at least iLvL 50 for 6 sockets.

See... You say that - but here are several items with a search hard cap of ilvl 45 that have 6s (not sure if link will work):

EDIT: Thinking about it, this may be a situation of "Items from strongboxes with of Complexity affix" over riding the hard limit. So, while its possible, it may not be possible on a "typical" item.

Vorici can 6 socket the item for 350 jewellers. Even if its below item level.
After that you are free to try and 6 link it since only the number of sockets is based on item level.

Oni + Tabula does not really count tho :)

However RandomHero gave you the reason why some items have 6 sockets below ilvl 50.
I used to did ALOT of low lvl pvp back when they had rewards / leaderboards for it, and I ran with 6 socket rare staff / chest all blow ilvl of 50 if I remember correctly.
On the bright side this is most likely no concern of yours as you wont spend 100+ ex on low lvl pvp gear :)

Yep. strongboxes can give you 6 sockets and six-links, if you're insanely lucky, starting around the level the affixes of "Items are fully linked" and "Items contain 2 additional sockets." show up together on the same box.
