Naming characters is the hardest part of this game.

Finding good names for my characters is harder than the game itself. One or two is fine but then you want to try other builds and switch around to keep things interesting. You might be playing a new league and suddenly you see an item or skill you have never seen before. You now want to make a new character to try things out, but Alas literally every name is taken.

You find yourself having to decide between just giving up and calling yourself Omegatron69 or Sammmmmm or spending hours finding smething that doesn't look stupid.

I sometimes envy those who can just name themselves ISummonShit and alike for i simply cannot exscape the hours of time put into figuring out a good character name that isn't already taken.

Well, there was a recent podcast with Chris Wilson as a guest and he acknowledged that 25% of character creations fail due to names being already taken and then he proceeded to ask which system people would prefer (like say battle.net or whatever), so GGG is very aware of this problem.

I just take the skill I want to use and sometimes put a "nek" or the ascendancy to it...
Earthquake - Quakenek / Lightning Strike Raider - Listraider / Totem Scion - Scitoa / Contagion - Nekcon / Frostblades - FrostyNek... ...
I hate searching for a nice name just to realize it's already taken :/

I also use desriptive names for builds. My bleed gladiator is called IBleedYouDood and my Totem hieropjhant is TotemChooseYou.

I started playing the game super early and made a bunch of characters with all the names I like to use. I just delete them and reuse the same names every league. I have had to make a few extra characters over the years though, and ya it can be super annoying. I've found underscores are the way to go, you can just throw one at the end of the name and it will usually work and doesn't look that bad. Like I have "Astasia" and "Astasia_"

Yeah that bugs me too much. Also i do that myself but sometimes i lose one of my names for "technical reasons" or get unlucky and someone steals it while im making the character.

I lost Yaksini one day because the game decided i had to rename the character. I was playing her at the time but i went to log in and bam, rename message.

As for Yaksini, I dunno, maybe somebody took offense to a religious based name and reported it.

Wiered i have no idea what happened with those names then.

Yaksini is currently taken but taking offense..that would be a ♥♥♥♥ move. I mean people call themselves religous things all the time afterall.

No. I googled before I posted that to double check and saw a bunch of reponses confirming the the 24 hour reserve timer, but they were all reddit posts and I just now realized they weren't even POE related posts (most games have a similar system) even though I had "poe" in my search. >_>; I was like 90% sure it applied to POE as well, but I can't find anything that confirms it so I could be wrong. My understanding though is the name is reserved because the character isn't truly deleted instantly, it's still stored on the server and in case of accidental deletes they can be restored by support. Your account can bypass the reserve because support can just replace that character for you, but other players can't use the name because it might create a situation where they would have to rename the character after playing for a while if the old character is restored.

Then again, if it's not reserved and somebody steals the name, I guess you could always email GGG and claim it was an accident and get your character restored, then try again later.

Character restoration doesn't necessarily guarantee that you get the name back though, as seen in this example response from support:
