What ilvl should I start selling rare items to players?
Is there a minimum ilvl on rares I should wait for before trying to sell to players?

You probably won't make much money off the stuff you find until finish act 10 and start mapping but there are plenty of low level uniques that sell for quite a bit of money. And rares that roll really well can still make some decent income even if they're low level, especially earlier in the leagues.

It'll benefit you in the long run to learn how to use the trade macro and poe.trade as early as possible.

If you're selling just to make money, you can start any time really, you could make a lot of money selling stuff before u even beat the story if yuo're lucky.

If you're selling stuff so you can buy upgrades then it just depends on when you hit a wall and how much you want to self-grind vs taking the easier route and trading to buy upgrades.

Depends on the item.
At iLv.55 you can find boots with up to 117 life, 30% move speed, and triple suffix resists 30-35%.
Not bad for pre map drop =P

Tier 1 life rolls drop pretty early on. Energy shield and weapon damage not so much.
Of course chances of getting the perfect rolls during your short time spent in low level areas are pretty slim. But not impossible to find something decent early on.

Use this site to check what affix tiers unlock at what iLvl

I'm just going to tell you to do what I told my brother to do (Because I got sick of PCing his trash)
Get 3x quad stash tabs and set them to a global price of 5c, 10c 15c.
Dump all youre rares into the 15c tab. After a few hours rotate the 15c tab to 10c and the 5c as your new 15c tab.
Keep rotating like that ever few hours, vendoring everything in the 5c tab before it rotates back to 15c.
If you ever get a storm of messages for a item, then you know its good and worth price checking.

This way you don't waste time price checking every item you find, as I see a lot of new players doing. Thats imo the worst way to play and will cost you money in the long run.

That's a good idea, thanks.

It may be useful to note that it does not solely depend on the tier of the mods rolled on items, you also need to consider what combination of mods are on the items and whether there is open prefix/suffix for bench crafting or multicraft. E.g. having t1 life and a single resist may be appealing to some, but having t3 life, fire resist, cold resist and lightning resist on the same slot may sell for a lot more.

If you are selling with open prefix/suffix in mind, you also want to think about range of values for natural mods on items, in comparison to the values for the equivalent crafted mods, as well as the accessibility of the mod in question. E.g. t3 crafted attack speed (11-13% local) on bow is numerically the same as t2 natural attack speed (11-13% local), but while t2 natural attack speed can roll on ilvl22+, t3 crafted attack speed is only unlocked in a t13 map. If you find 2 bows with the right combination of mods, one with the right combination of mods and open suffix, while the other has the same mods but of a lower tier albeit with a natural t2 attack speed roll, the latter may be more valuable. If unsure, it's always good to check the mods on Path of Building and prices on the market.

From time to time, even ilvl 50~ can sell for a bit, so keep an eye out especially for jewellery and belts for desirable mods. As you play more, you will get a better idea of what constitute as desirable mod combinations. If in doubt, just ask yourself whether you would pay for whatever you are selling, for such an item.

As you accumulate wealth, the value of checking and selling rares for a few chaos here and there diminishes. At this point, you may only want to focus on rares of particular item bases or item level. You can easily write or edit a loot filter to only show whatever you want. I would recommend starting with ilvl 83+ shaper/elder base and abyss jewels, in addition to whatever you need for your own crafting endeavours.

If you want to make real money you aren't going to try to collect and sell junk. The real money is in margin trading = buy stuff at low prices and then sell at higher prices. This only works if you understand what stuff sells for though. That way you can recognize what is a cheap price that'll allow you to flip it for a profit. I had a buddy that would do this all the time and the dude had like 100 times more currency after six months of playing than I had accumulated after two years from normal playing and selling stuff. Moral of the story, be an econ major.
