So I usually start on poe ninja,
https://poe.ninja/challenge/builds?skill=Double-Strike&heatmap
This is a heatmap of where all the high level players are going with double strike. The nodes in red are nodes almost everyone grabs (You can narrow this down by selecting an acendancy, this is all acendancies right now which makes it a little strange). The nodes in green/light blue are nodes fewer people have grabbed. Be cautous, some of those grabs may be for specific builds with specific skills, so youll have to do a little browsing beyond that. (I also just find some peoples builds arnt that good in my egotistical opinion)
Beyond this you can and should go to pob to work on your theory crafted character. Some ballpark numbers I usualy look for when going from scratch,
50k dps will be enough for through yellow maps. Youll typically need around 100k dps to do reds and you can do guardians but it will start to feel lacking. With 250k you can do guardians and shaper nicely but will still be lacking for uber elder. When we start getting up into the 500k+ range we get builds that will be more comfertable for uber elder.
You typically also want +200% life or es depending on what your going. You can skimp a bit if you have damage mitigation but you will feel it. Things like evasion and armor are nice, but keep in mind, most of the shaper and elder fights (if thats what you are shooting for) are not really impacted by evasion or armor as thats a combination of mostly spells and cold damage. Everything is situational though, evasion is insanly good for crit rolled maps (This takes a long explanation of crit mechanics, but trust me it is). And armor is insanly good for mini or argus, its all situational.
Thats my two cents, others can feel free to correct me based on what they think on this whole thing.
Even on a 6-link, Cyclone costs a ridiculously low amount of mana, and it is extremely easy to make it free to channel! When your main spam attack hits the entire screen and costs nothing, you know you are in super-OP territory.
Errrr was mana ever really the stopping point for most builds? I mean ya at low level, but when you get up into your 90s its usually never a showstopper.
