How f2p is this game?

Hi, I'm thinking about getting into POE. But I'm concerned about paywalls. Are there any? Is it possible to play the game without spending money?

It's my first PoE experience (started about a week before new league), got my second char (1h+Shield Marauder Juggernaut) going because I got frustrated by my Duelist Gladiator dying with a single blow. I'm at the beginning of Act VII now and also I was at Act VIII before decide to create a new char.

My aim is completing the storyline and see how it ends. But if you aim to compete with others, I absolutely believe you will need all kind of stashes.

So my suggestion is just start playing casually and see how the story and mechanics goes for you. If you ever like the game and decide to play endless and compete against other players, well you can think to pay for stashes then.

If you are not living in EU or NA or Japan or maybe Australia, it costs too much money to buy every kind of stashes tho, because they don't have regional pricing like the Steam does for the games they sell. So I decided to end my journey and uninstall once I finish the storyline.

its compleatly free, although you WILL be wanting some stash stab at some point. but its not required. simply that once you start playing and really enjoying the game, those tabs are SUCH a nice QoL. and their not so expensive. But yah Just QOL that i would HIGHLY recommend. Otherwise its 100% free.

It's possible, but you might be reducing your time-efficiency.

Most stuff sold is cosmetic only, there are however some things like item storage (not forthe inventory, so nothing for the direct gameplay, for "long term" storage/trading) that make it that much quicker to manage your items (you can choose to use additional accounts to store stuff away for free if you don't want to spend money, but that takes a lot of time). You get enough storage for non-horders to go through the campaign and the first tiers of endgame without worries. Just remember to trade up currencies so they don't take up that much space.

As has been said, QoL improvements are the best things about spending money, and one I very much appreciate.

You play the game a little bit, don't really need to spend, play the game a lot, spending money on a currency tab first, then map tab ... premium tab (for trading your own items outside of in game chat) ... then extra stash tabs and more convenience like div and delve tabs. These non cosmetic items might cost you about as much as a "AAA" title to get to a comfortable level.

So none of the game is pay-walled, but it is convenience-walled.

TL;DR
if you were "thinking" about getting into PoE, just do it. You dont NEED to pay a dime to get to endgame at all. Once youre hooked into the demon that is PoE. spending a couple buck for a Currency tab will feel just right, and not a bother at all. it'll be like making a gift to yourself.

So yah, if you were thinking of trying PoE, go ahead. This isnt Black Desert Online.

I only recommend putting money in for a currency tab, though I also recommend waiting till it is on sale (they usually have one every couple of months). Micro-transactions might as well be macro-transactions with the prices in this game. I understand it's F2P, but I can't say spending more than 10 is reasonable given what it offers.

Also if you wait stash tabs go on sale every few weeks. If you want to buy some i'd suggest buying a supporter pack. They come with currency and cosmetics and are a better value.

You want to endgame this without Stash tabs?haha never....they managed the stacks for currency and maps and,and ... that you HAVE to buy Tabs if u want to play it seriously.
Or lets say,they managed it so hard uncomfortably,that you have buy Tabs.
If you want to trade you must have 1 premier Tab if iam right?And this Game without trading..sure some do it.
And now watch costs of the points.If u want a few Tabs...you can buy 2 full price games ;)

No, you don't have to. You can use the forums to post your items, even automated with tools like Acquisition. The indexers do index those as well.

Depends on what you define as seriously. There's people playing in leagues where stash isn't even accessible, not even the basic 4 ones - and beat uber elder (it's also SSF): https://old.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/9yk2by/uber_elder_down_on_kripp_league_ssf_no_stash_no/ Not quite sure why that wouldn't be serious.

Try mapping :) every single map needs 1 slot.I understand GGG but sometimes it looks a lil to much moneygrab.But i know they must earn money.So its okey and they are working hard on ladders.
All i want to say is,if u want to rly play it,you need : Currency,Maps,Divination? and a few normal Stash Tabs.
If you want you mule but...
Jes if you are in this game,you know ssf was is worth and what not.A noob sees never map tier 8 in ssf.
Sure there are ways but not for noobs.They dont know what to keep and what to drop.
For me its playable with an pack @ 50 Bucks.So its for me a Fullprice Game.

Look at the screenshot, it states the modifier prohibiting the use of the stash. No stash needed to beat mapping (-> uber elder).

It's just your way of playing and hording stuff that makes you think you need it, because you don't constrain yourself enough.

The game costs $30 + microtransactions, period. Whoever tells you otherwise has likely sunk $100+ into it and is in denial ("Oh, but a single movie ticket costs you $30, blah-blah-blah.")

Yes you can play with 4 tabs, except nobody really does. And if you do, you'll hate your life in the end, and will be spending an additional 30-100-200% of time (depending on your experience with the game) micromanaging the intentionally(!!!) f'ed up inventory.

It's bait & switch and extortion of the worst kind.
