You might have also experienced desync, so those enemies might not even have been where the client has drawn them etc... it's hard to say for certain what happened.
Well it wasn't desync. First of all, I use lockstep and not predictive and, second, missing an enemy produces a different sound. This is true even if you're desynced. I remember trying predictive back when I had severe problems and I remember constantly missing enemies that should have clearly been hit by my abilities.
The enemy has no mods on it, my attacks clearly hit and I doubt they are in darkness. I threw 3 friggin' flares just to make sure it's not due to darkness. Any other reasons/ideas?
The problem is that some skills are more prone to those bugs than others, so if it's a niche skill those bugs hardly surface.
Flares lights aren't displayed as they work, there can be tiny obstacles that the view part ignores, but the calculations don't.
Then of course there's quirks... like if you manage to get modifiers like "your critical strikes do no damage" (from Shade of Solaris) and have a crit shrine active that let's you always crit... not something that'd happen in the mine, but still.
The important part really should be if they are able to damage you. If they aren't, they're probably a brain-fart of the client. If they are, and no gameplay reason explains it, consider it the servers fault.
I honestly have no idea. I have pretty high evasion and these enemies do attack, but I am yet to see them land a hit. I just get that constant "fooowah" sound when an attack misses. I'll just file it in the "I have no idea why this happened" category, I guess.
For reference, Armor isn't even that good by itself against heavy damage hits. The minotaur on Tier 16 map does about 5000 damage. If you have 10,000 armor, he does like 2500 I think.
Evasion against him is a bad idea basically. :P
I have dodge and avoidance + Steelskin. I'm playing an assassin and I have no armour. I have various sources of additional dmg reduction like Flesh and Stone, Fortify, Evasive etc. Yes, when an attack does hit, it's terrifying, but that's the way it's supposed to be with Assassin.
I don't know, I like having a mini heart-attack every 30s, lol.
That's enough defensive options that you'll be fine.
I play Ranger Archers almost always, so getting a high block chance is not easy. :P
They literally can only get block chance on like 3 items or something? It's not large.
