How does Herald of Ice works with Assassins Mark, Curse on hit support and Onslaught support

I'm currently running Ice Shot / Barrage Raider and I'm just about to buy a couple of items as per guide suggestions. I've noticed the helmet there suggests running 4L helm and insert all the above spells there. I don't think that I theoretically understand how does it work. Can anyone explain this to me?

herald of ice can hit enemis with the shatter explosion, then other support will play their part just like that.

So instead of Ice Shot do I need to hit enemies with Herald of Ice in order to make this combo proc?

herald of ice is an aura, which will auto explode the mobs if you shatter them with ice shot (high crit or freeze chance can easily achieve that)

Well... no, actually an "Aura" is something different.

Herald of Ice is (technically) a self cast buff. So ... you buff yourself, you do more damage, and then when you do buffed damage, Curse-On-Hit triggers.

An Aura is an AoE buff. A Herald is not.

note that when you set it up like this the curse only goes off when things shatter (as that is the only time herald of ice hits) so if you are in a map with mods that prevent shattering your curse wont be doing anything.
