Most games in the same era this was released, were charging outrageous prices for in-game game breaking items. PoE took the route of in game reskins, storage tabs, and character slots. I personally only bought tabs, because I enjoy the game, and they are the most useful item in the bunch. Tabs are worth it by the way.
Also you can gamble with boxes or wait for sales.
2 character slots before you need to pay $5 for another one
half the inventory size, with an optional payment to unlock the other half...but thats on a per character basis.
1 or 2 stash tabs, need more? flash the cash...character bound
Want a cosmetic? character bound...will be a bit cheaper
There is so much ♥♥♥♥ that they don't do that other games will and you moan becuase to make money they need to price a bit higher for something YOU DO NOT NEED
ignoring the fact that THEY GIVE SOME AWAY during the temp leagues
Check out streamers for POE, they have HUNDREDS of stashes to be able to efficiently maintain game content.
And all of this further increases with every single league basically, which adds new content to the game.
Like this league? 50 legendaries alone, new gems, breach fragments if there are any (dont play this league so am not sure about it). The problem is, seeing content being added every league, which requires more and more space in out inventory, I dont see stash tabs being added for free to balance it, or am I missing something?
So, if soemone overwhelmed with items after several hours of play, decides to buy let's say 20 stash tabs to have space for all the items they need at this moment, they face another problem - how the f*** navigate through 25 tabs of loot that don't even have options to name them properly???? ofc GGG have a solution to this, u can upgrade ur standard stash tabs to premium ones, which can be named by the user - but guess how you can upgrade them....I only say that 6 premium stashes bundle cost 200 coins (if you would like to buy them separately, it's 240 coins for six stashes), and this 200 coins is exactly 20 USD....20 USD for 6 inventory stashes. There are whole really amazing games being released cheaper than 20 USD....
So yeah, basically its free to play as a demo for first hours, ofc some masochists play it further without paying for anything, treat characters as mules etc, but lets be honest, if anyone wants normal, smooth, and comfortable gaming experience for longer period, this game is not free to play at all.
Important thing to add, in diablo 3 mentioned, which costs like 100 usd, u get basically all the content in the game. In POE, if u want any kind of skin change possibiliteis on your gear, u must buy it - AND IT COSTS A LOT, trust me.
I play POE for like half a year, and already spent around 100 EUR (and this is only spent during sales, which happens only periodicly), maybe a bit more. So, someone may ask, wtf did you pay 100 EUR for, on a free to play game, you #@#@$#$ idiot ?!?!??!?!?!
Let's see:
-Stash tabs for my inventory, 27 total I believe (with the free ones), about 20-22 are premium so that I don't get lost in this maze
- and I bought one supporter pack for one league, which gave me one portal effect cosmetic change, one foot print effect and 1 cosmetic change for all pieces of my gear (without jewellry ofc, they are not customisable as far as I know). I will repeat, ONE cosmetic effect on my gear for about 40 EUR.... and as far as I know, this effect can only be used on ONE character only at the same time, so you can't get like 20 charactrs using this effect.
How ppl can even compare such situation to diablo 3, in which if you pay 100 USD for the game, you get everything, hundreds of transmogs, all characters that you have can have all possible looks, etc etc.
If someone would want to have all the content in POE, only in terms of visual skins for their gear, which in diablo you get for the game price at 100-150 USD or something, in POE they would have to spend probably around 10000 USD or even more! I just dont have time to add up all the items from poe shop, but I'm sure we speak about 5 digits number here.
POE is better game, thats for sure, but stop this idiotic arguments that this game is free to play and diablo is more expensive - its total bull***.

"As Path of Exile grows, so too does the desire for new ways to store and organise your items. To help reduce the clutter, we've created three new types of Stash Tabs! Divination Stash Tabs, Essence Stash Tabs and Quad Stash Tabs are now available in the microtransaction store! We've also created a discounted bundle that includes all three new stash tabs!"
TY GGG, u guys are too kind!
so funny how easily ppl are offended by posting your opinion. go buy those supporter packs for 400 bucks then. i dont care at all. i expressed my opinion in this thread what i am free to do.
its still MY opinion too... no?
There's also daily deals on PoE and on most weekends the sale items are stash tabs, so you can get them a bit cheaper. It's not ideal, but it has never really come off as super greedy to me. If they were to do something about the situation to be more generous, they could add 1 extra tab for all players due to the surplus of new mechanics but I still don't see that as mandatory.
I've been playing for a decent while now and have not payed anything, on the other hand I know a couple persons who have spent so much time on it, they felt obligated to support the devs so they now have some stash tabs and cosmetic items... seems fair to me.
