While I don't play it exclusively for the story; for me personally the story of any game of any genre is always the second most important thing after the core gameplay. Definitely more important than graphics and nice effects for instance.
And I agree, 10 acts was too long, the whole Doedre,Shavronne,Maligaro thing was not necessary; could've saved a few acts and put more details into the pantheon gods instead.

Mechanically I'm too bad at the game to offer any decent proposals.
Storywise my main gripe would be with Tukohama; having played a few Marauders I get the feeling he's a pretty important god for Karui at least but his fight is not much harder than a zone boss.
I do have the same problem with the rest of them as well; they are supposed to be Gods you're killing but since they packed in so many of them it doesn't feel the least bit epic to kill them.
It's still okay but feels like a bit of a waste of potentially good bosses.
my biggest issue is the bandit rewards. the only one that is really competitive with 2 points is alira. i liked being able to mix and match in the old system and i miss the option to take an extra charge.
Never done that befor, always got through first play through, and then...well, then I lose the interest, I got through the game.
And that not just a problem I got with poe, that a problem I got with all hack and slash games.
