wand or staff ?

greetings all

busy building a caster witch , though running 2 x wands currently for around 4 500 dps , though I see many online builds rather use staffs for casters

are staffs better compared to 2 x wands for casters ? or am I missing something perhaps

1 handed weapon allows you to use a shield = more eHP and more stats.

Staff doesn't allow you to use an off-hand but it can be 6L, so you don't need a 6L chest and can use something like Kaom's heart.

staffs can allso roll +1 level all gems and +2 level ele gems. maybe thats why staffs were used?

Yes, this plus the fact they can be 6L makes them good for certain builds that use spells that scale very well with gem level like SRS.

also depends on what kind of build your doing, some skills are better off with staff due to passives, while others are better for wands

interisting , doing lightning build currently running lightning Arc , perhaps I should grab a staff as well for later use .

wands currently together provide almost 200% extra spell damage , which brings the total dps up real nice , havent droped any 5 or 6 linked staffs yet though would love getting hold of one at some point :)

how expensive do you want the build to get? using a 2h weapon and 6L (or even 5L) will greatly increase the amount of currency you need to make it work. Basically go dual wand (or wand and spirit sheild with high spell damage rolls (two spell damage rolls) up until endgame, then if you want to, invest in the staff if you want and get 6L.

You should be fine through endgame with a good wand and a spirit sheild. Just remember youll lose a skill and need a skill that will benefit from an additional couple links, your main skill still should be on your body armor with 5 or 6 L if you can. Some builds dont require more than one high linked skill.

also wands can have +gem level as well.

The cost difference to do it right is very significant so be aware, it could cost you hundreds of chaos orbs or at a minimum thousands of jewler/chrom/link orbs to make the staff.

like i said if you dont want to put forth the effort and currency a wand and spirit sheild will do just fine through endgame.

A 6L body will always be more expensive than a 6L staff. Staff is the cheap choice, wand+offhand or shield is the expensive one. Also it doesn't matter that wands can have + gem level since they have a maximum of 3 sockets and links.

5L and 6L items are practically impossible to get without huge amounts of currency. I just tried to get a 4 link and wound up using over 10 orbs of fusing. This random gen $hit needs to stop, and the devs need to introduce a way we can get 5L and 6L without all the currency. Basically its boring and grindy and that means the game (for me) gets shelved way sooner...

Except they already DID add a way to circumvent the rng. Maybe next time do a little more research before bashing on the developers eh? ;D
