First option: taking another class changes the start location within the skill tree.
Second option: the ascendancy class "Ascendant" from the scion has the ability to start from a second location other than her own.
Third option: the Intuitive Leap Viridian Jewel allows you to take passives within a smal area of the jewel socket without having to take every node inbetween.
Also, there are some uniques and gems which are giving the player some passive nodes. For example: the unique "The Perfect Form" gives Phase Acrobatics, "Malachai's Simula" gives Blood Magic and the gem "Blood Magic Support" gives said node to socketed gems.
About ascendant, it doesn't switch the starting area, it adds another one. Making you be able to start from another class to get some nodes, and from the scion to get some other nodes. Mind you it's for very specific hybrid builds only, you'll what I mean when you'll try to make a build this way.
As for intuitive leap, not only it's expensive, but it only save about 2 to 4 points depending on where you slot it, and you can't do that anywhere you want. So you're not going to jump from one side of the tree to another, it's usually used to have a lv 92-93 tree working for a lv 90 (where every point counts becasue leveling is a pain at that point).
For everything else, it's a tree, so you have to plan the routing and optimize your nodes, that's part of the build, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered making a tree.
