47 to 63% MoM, Perma-Endurance and Power Charges, Non-Crit
It would be neat if this was considered for the "Build Of The Week". :)


Just wanted to discuss a particular build that I'm working on for a while. Please feel free to engage in friendly discussion about the build.

Preface: I'm not using Cloak Of Defiance, though. There are several reasons that I'm not using it, but the primary is that it's too expensive for me. Additionally, I'll only have 7 maximum power charges, so I'm at 53/47 Life/Mana ratio for damage taken. (47% MoM)

Also, I play on Hardcore.

•You could increase your "Damage Taken From Mana Before Life" by an additional 5% by having a helmet with the appropriate corruption, but those are extremely hard to get on a good helm, so I left that out of the build.

If you did get this corruption on a helm, though, you could potentially have 63% of damage taken from mana.

Rundown
===========================================================

• You never critical hit
• Every time you hit and don't crit, you gain a power charge
• Every time you gain a power charge, you have a 25% chance to gain an endurance charge
• 1% Damage Taken From Mana Before Life per every Power Charge
• Once you're at maximum power charges, start using Cold Snap, which consumes a power charge to negate it's cooldown
• You gain another power charge when Cold Snap hits, letting you continuously try to proc the 25% chance to gain an endurance change when you gain a power charge.
• You wind up with 47% to 58% damage taken from mana before life, depending on whether or not you have 7 or 10 max power charges, and if you use the Cloak Of Defiance or not.
• You gain 30% of your maximum mana as energy shield, which winds up being a couple thousand extra energy shield, which provides a large buffer on top of your already huge EHP. This can be coupled with Eldritch Battery, or just left as a standard buffer.

Note On The Conclusion: You will naturally have maximum power charges and endurance charges at nearly all times, including vs bosses.

Additional Information
===========================================================
With this setup, and enough increased maximum power charges, you can split your damage between life and mana at a 40/60 ratio, so your mana total and mana regeneration becomes more important than your life total, which could lead to some interesting pathing along the passive tree, as well as different choices in gear.

The benefits that I see from this are:

•You essentially get double regeneration and leech, since leeching mana is equivalent, if not better than, leeching life in this case, since it accounts for 47% to 58% of your survivability.

• Clarity Aura is even more beneficial

• It's a lot easier to get 5k to 8k Mana and 5K to 6k Life than it is to get 10k to 14k Life. This isn't the maximum you can attain, but these are reasonable numbers for not spending a fortune on gear. If you are wealthy, or if you don't mind sacrificing some damage, then you can surpass these numbers.

• Extremely tanky

• Passive Tree is very flexible, you can path in many directions and customize the build in many different ways, since mana nodes are just as important as life nodes, if there's a mana node in any particular direction on the tree, you can go that way instead of having to go straight for the life nodes

• Strength and Intelligence nodes are both highly beneficial.

Additional Notes
===========================================================

•Cold Snap is not required for the build, it's just neat to use with it and helps to continue getting Endurance Charges. You can use this build with any spells or attacks.

•Spending mana for skills is like spending life for skills, which is generally not good, but this is mitigated by Hierophant's "Sanctuary Of Thought" passive, which reduces mana cost of skills by 50%. If you pick up a few more passives to reduce mana cost, you can get nearly 100% reduction to cost of skills without pathing too far, and those nodes also add mana, which counts as life for this build.

•The Hierophant's Ascendency Passive "Sanctuary Of Thought" also grants 30% of your maximum Mana as additional Energy Shield. Combine this with Eldritch Battery and you will have a couple thousand extra mana buffer, and since you have reduced skill cost, you won't be spending much of it, if any at all, to cast skills, as noted above. Alternatively, you could skip getting Eldritch Battery and just have that couple thousand energy shield be a general buffer.

question would be what kind of build is this?

moreover how you want achieve 9 power charges? 3 base + 3 from tree + 1 from aylardex. maybe with storm prison or void battery, but the first one is not really strong, the 2. more or less expensive. also 10 charges is just possible as occultist. and going occultist makes half of ur idea pointless due depending on hierophant stuff

It's a lot easier to get 5k to 8k Mana and 5K to 6k Life than it is to get 10k to 14k Life

i dunno, just used some basic tree in PoB as reference. Click[pastebin.com] where i just used your theories from above, reduce mana costs, mana, life. no dmg at all.

i end up with 6,6k life, 3,1k ES and 6,2k mana, with perfect mana and life stats possible and a kaoms heart (which u cant use because not having a 6L then) and ending with a lvl 73 tree without dmg. so easy is something different for me :D

when dropping the reduce mana costs nodes I end up with this[pastebin.com] and 6,5k life and 5,9k mana.

surely u can use items like pledge but then your max power charge count drops to 7

even so the idea sounds kinda interesting, I dont see how it should be good to invest so extrem in the defense without any offence.

also you dont really need 10-14k life imo

almost forgot:
This means that 18% of damage taken is essentially completely negated, because mana is life for this build

keep in mind that u get the 18% mana before the damage on the mana is calculated, so it stark working on the 2. hit

As for damage, some survivability may need to be sacrificed on the passive tree to keep up damage. Void Battery would add a significant amount of damage and increase maximum power charges, and while it is still a bit expensive, it's attainable for most players if they save a bit.

Great point! I edited the post to show 7 maximum charges. (1 from either of the unique wands that add it, 1 from amulet, 2 from passives, 3 base)

I'm aware of that particular point. The cloak would just be for the extra 10%. Taking MoM on the tree is kindof necessary because the mana nodes that are behind it are just too good to pass up for this build. I'm not planning on using the cloak though.

In theory, just 4.5k life and 4k mana (8.5k EHP), with the extra energy shield (further increasing the EHP by well over a thousand) and Eldritch Battery, would be wonderfully tanky. This goal allows more room for points in offense and less of a need for perfect gear.

for this the build guide need to be written on the official forums. also you dont have any guide, just some key points what your builds rely on

This is not same as MoM. It simply causes you to gain mana when you take damage based on percentage of the damage. It does not cause the damage be taken from mana.

Yeah, but it's extra regen based on how much damage you've taken, so aside from getting 1 shotted, it's another way of essentially mitigating damage taken. It just works well in conjunction with high % "damage taken from mana before life"

You'll gain the mana back over 4 seconds following the hit.
