Drillneck used to be fully 100% damage increased, that would have been only changed by divines.
I'm not sure if my old 100% damage increased Drillneck will change to the new nerfed formula or not.
Pierce didn't get nerfed, it got buffed.
It should not be possible to dodge huge nerfs (or not receive huge buffs) just because you had the item(s) before the patch hits. Same goes for all previous patches really, but this it the first major one since i found this game.
Basically that would be like saying: we are not changing the items at all, we are just introducing new similar items with the same name and appearance - and preventing the previous versions from dropping. Cowardly hypocrasy and pandering to veterans when it is done without making the existing ones unusable/unequipable.
So for those who do not know, in the very long beta (several years) that preceeded the release, the devs tried something to test stuff without messing with the rest of the game. So basically we had 2 leagues, the "standard beta league" which was the up to date beta, and when they made an update, all chars of that league were dumped into the legacy mode and they wiped the standard league. So players could still continue to test and enjoy old stuff, just in case and the up to date version could always start fresh.
At some point they got the crazy idea to add wierd stuff in the standard league, like shrines, strongboxes, new mods etc.
And what was the testing ground for the beta actually grew into the challenge leagues and the legacy trash league was renamed standard.
So one would now actually argue that standard league isn't really what people should be after, it's more of the testing league with all the stuff you got from challenges, but challenge leagues is where the fun is at.
As a general rule mechanic changes are automatic. While value adjustments needs a divine orb.
The Taming is a value adjustment and will need a divine orb.
Carcass Jack unique stats (Below the horisontal line) are value changes and needs a divine orb.
Cloak of defiance is not a mechanic change, it is a removal of 1 stat and an addition of another so it needs a divine orb.
Vessel of Vinktar energy shield leech is a mechanic change and will be automatic, but if you have a legacy variant the mana leech will still be there.
Carcass jack BASE DEFENCE stats (the stats above the horisontal line) are a mechic change, a sweeping change to all hybrid items and will be automatic.
Pierce is a mechanic change, so all items with % pierce stats will be automaticly changed. (Drillneck amongst others)
