how do you get a character from PoE into path of build?

The import function does not accept my account name or any character name, says it failed. I just want to load my characters into this tool to see what I can change. What steps are required?

PoB doesn't support beta characters.

Dunno then, I've just deleted and added my character again, it works. May be you have some non-ascii characters in the name? Or may be it's hidden? Try to upload someone's build and see if it works.

I was able to load in a character from a streamer that was 3.0. I select new and choose 2.6 to try to get my toon imported. Note that I have not done anything to export it to any location.

So if you just installed PoB, what steps are needed to get a character import from your own account?

Looking at the PoE forum I sign in and use the name it shows for my account. Then when that failed, I tried one the character names. I doubt they any ascii characters. They are just alpha letters, mixed casing.

Is your profile private by any chance? Streamers often opt into a public profile for people to ... take inspiration in their builds.

If it is private (which is the default), you won't be able to load from it without being logged into that account, which is what that sessionid-field below the name field is for. In that case login to the official website in a browser and check the cookies (your browsers dev tools can help you) for that id.

Wow there are a lot of cookie for poe and they each have a bunch of session id's, tried one, but not the right one. Anyway to narrow it down?

Make sure your PoE profile is set to public (steps 1-6 in https://imgur.com/a/aBNj2 - only applies if it's your account, otherwise someone else will have to do that ),

then in PoB switch to the import/export tab and follow the instructions (to enter PoE account name and then the characters name, see https://imgur.com/a/vbN5r )
