Viable 1h + shield templar?

is there anything like that? I don't have currency to spend so I don't care all too much about endgame, I care about the tree as I don't want to die every 2 seconds

pretty much any energy shield build uses 1h+shield, dunno if that was what you meant

that's kind of what I meant. I want a meelee templar that uses a shield and a one handed weapon. I've seen totem builds but I don't like the playstyle

If you want to go melee+shield duelist is a much better alternative then templar. Templar builds are usually casters.

I already have a duelist. I wanted something that mixed more strength and intelligence opposed to strength and dexterity

You can try righteous fire build. You need rise of phoenix shield and doryani catalyst and a lot of hp regen, a lot. The other weapon Doon Cuebiyari scales with strenght so i think is not for templar

If you want high survivability try a Lazy Paladin build.

I have played it a few different ways. I prefer to start Duelist and go Gladiator ascendancy for the max spell block along with max block.

I have one at level 82 that has these stats:

5107 life
24889 armor
418 life regen
ele resists all 75
chaos resist 60
block 70% spell block 70%

He uses 1 handed earthquake with 9.5k dps. Sunder is also a good choice for a 1 handed skill.

It is a good build if you really don't want to die easily.

My duelist is a sunder build but just at level 51, it's getting decimated by spells (especially bosses) so it's hard to level up because of the exp penalty. Other than that the duelist is just fine. But I'm looking for different playstyle, a crusader like build, heavy armor, big shield and hammers (shame there are no flails in this game) to smite the infidels.
