what is a "boss of magic"
I'm playing maps and I wont get the bonus objective for some reason, I'm assuming a boss of magic is one of those orange or yellow bosses. I've killed plenty on this map but I still wont get the bonus objective thing. Also what is "higher version of this map".

What that means is that you need to kill a boss on a map that is a tier of magic or above. Alch your maps before running them, basically.

you need to kill the boss of the map in a magic rarity version of the map or higher. meaning the map needs to be blue (magic) or yellow (rare). its just like the items you pick up. if you have a white version of the map you can use a transmutation orb on it to make it blue and get the bonus.

The boss of the map is the endboss of that map, e.g. the big spider in the jungle valley. Many of them have separate rooms to fight in (in map teleports). The of a "magic or higher version of the map" means that the map needs to be of magic or rare rarity.

Some maps have multiple bosses, extreme example Crystal Ore, which has 2 in 2 separate rooms.

Don't alch your maps unless they're yellow or above. Magic is transmuation, rare is alch. For red maps you'll have to alch and then corrupt them.

I'm not sure what yellow maps are, is it when the little symbol in the middle is yellow?

Yes there is yellow (T6-11) and yellow (the rare color code), yellow map usually means T6-11 (people usually say rare for rare type items).
