How do I get gems that my class is not supposed to receive?
Hello, everyone!
I'm playing a Shadow, and for the build I'm going for, I'll need a few gems like Spell Totem, which my class, as far as I understood can't normally get. Yes, I am a noob. :D
My question is: is there any way to get gems like that without starting a new game with a different character and transferring them through the stash?

Drop/trade. Not sure but i think some gems are even buyable from vendors.

Thanks! Any hints on how trading works?

Search for the item on poe.trade, click whisper button to copy text to clipboard, open chat ingame and ctrl+v to paste, wait for invite, join hideout of seller, accept trade request insert price and check the trade (mouse over all items of the sellers side), confirm, disband group and use waypoint to get back to your desired instance.

Just ask in global if some has spares that you need, unless gems are 20 quality, you can get any gem you need for free.

the flask/belt/ring/neck vendor got a 2nd tab where they sell spell gems , BUT not all , depends on your class and what quest you have done. else use global chat or zone chat and ask ppl for the gem you need.

Check the wiki for the class that can buy the gems you want from vendors and make alts for them. Almost all gems can be "unlocked" this way.

You would have to actually play that other character to unlock the gems, though.

Yes, potentially quite far even. And then it's a 0q gem that might even be overleveled.

I did that early on when doing SSF, now I just wait for them to drop and roll gemcutters boxes (to support or all / rare if it makes sense) to increase my chances. Most gems can be substituted while leveling. (Although a missing LMP can be quite frustrating)

Lvling alts isn't that hard unless your free time to play the game is really short. You can get into Act 4 Merciless with only main quests being done in around 8 to 12h (speedrunners are doing it in less than 5h but let's ignore that). Ofc it helps if you have lvling gears to boost efficiency but once each class is done, you've an infinite suply of gems as long as you've currency to spend.

gem+orb scouring = -1 gem lvl
gem+orb of regret = gem lvl equals 1

Both orbs aren't even that expensive or hard to get, they drop at a decent rate.

5h overhead and currency investment of about the cost of most simple gems at players. Overhead repeated in next league. Overhead possibly doubled to get other gems as well. I'll stay to my words of it being ineffective, but at least SSF-able.

worth noting: you don't have to reach A4 Merc to unlock all gems

I already took the 5h from the "speedrunners" to make it more of an average case than worst case. But yeah, best case you just trade in a starting gem and it takes 1 minute.

Fair enough. If you're a crappy racer like me, end of Cruel takes you about 5h anyway! ;)

Not that I've ever gone this far to mule myself a gem. I think A3 Normal is as far as I've gone. So more like 1-1.5h.

Of course that may change if I play SSF.

But either way I look at the positive side: if I get bored of my main, I already have an alt pre-leveled.
