Playing wih a lower level friend, EXP?

Hello !

So I want to play with my friend and he's underleveled (we have a 15~20 level difference) and I was wondering if we could still play together; I would gain less EXP and he would catch up with me eventually by partying together.

I've read :

But didn't really understand how it works..

So, does anyone know?

No, you'd be stealing the xp from him and get more than 50%, while he get's less than that.

If you want to help your friend, nearly kill enemies ahead of him so he can finish them off while you're at least 3 screens away. You can prevent enemy death or at least make it less likely that enemies die with http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Southbound

I don't think EXP is split anymore. Enemies are worth the same amount of EXP if youre in a party or not.
But penalties still apply. If youre surrounded by higher level party members you get a penalty. Same with being too high/low of a level for the zone.

So, if your friend groups with you, you give him reduced EXP penalty.

then again mobs die so fast that the overall xp-gain for him might be beneficial. in general people tend to run their preferred farming areas solo while being rushed. the rusher just runs the longer passages while the rushed person farms

If you want to help him, give him the portal way point so hes on a higher level map.
To level faster its 3 levels above your current level +1 per 16 levels. So at 16 you should be at +4 then at 32 you should be +5. Use this formula for max XP.

I usually have a friend give me all the way points and then go back to the appropriate level maps and grind.
