Default loot filter colors explained?
I just recently discovered that there is an item filter option in the UI settings. So far I'm loving it. It leaves more or less the same stuff I used to manually pick up from the forrest of unfiltered junk.

However, there are a few items which I would normally consider junk, but default filter is leaving them highlighted and even painting different color borders around them.

So far, I know that green border is used for items with R+G+B sockets which can be sold for Chromatic Orb, but I can't find a purpose for those below:

- a simple white Gavel (item level 70) with 3 red sockets (one unlinked) is always visible nd displayed with white border

- white Glorious Plate (item level 70) with 2 unlinked sockets is always visible and displayed with brown border

- some blue items, although invisible until I press a pick up key, have blue border (Siege Axe) while others of the same level don't (Thorium Spirit Shield)

What do those borders mean? Are they used in some type of vendor recipes which I'm not aware of?

I tried googling it, but I can't find an explanation, only tutorials on how to download 3rd party filters or how to make my own.
I don't want that. Default filter gets the job done for me, but those 3 borders are making me wonder whether I'm missing something :)

Thank you

for the gavel it is one quality 20 gavel or stone hammer or rock breaker plus 1 map of any kind gives a chisel

not actually sure about the others.

my recommendation is to jump right to neversinks filter

some items like leather belt and sorcerer boots are always shown even tho they are normal items , because u can chance orb them to a headhunter or skyforth boots ..
same goes for the chest u were talking about :)

Ok. Didn't know about gavels, but now this makes sense since they produce a currency item.

However I thought any white item can be chanced into some unique of the same base type, so I don't understand why are some white items more special than others :)

But nvm, thank you both for replies.

If it really bothers you for a specific item, ctrl+c the item and paste the details of it here. I don't use the default filter, but some filters use quite advanced restrictions (like highlighting best bases for the ilvl), which may or may not be "debug"-able then.

Most white items can be chanced (most, as in maraketh weapons can't, they don't have unique versions), but since some uniques are stupidly expensive, chancing their white base is like playing the lottery, if you get the unique version you mostly can stop farming, you're rich for the league.

Check out One Filter to Rule Them All[www.pathofexile.com] for some explanation of the highlighting. GGG literally stole that guy's filter for the in-game default one, so that post should tell you everything you need to know.

some items are worth much more than others. that said, a kaoms heart (glorious plate) isnt really one of the things worth chancing so i dunno whats up with that.

Ty for explanations.

I'm not really bothered by it, nor am I trying to get rich.
I play mostly ssf, so uniques are only valuable to me if I can incorporate them into the current build.
I was just curious, since they bothered to paint those items differently, maybe there is some other easy recipe (like 'chromatic orb' and 'cartographer chisel') which I was not aware of.
