No SFX

I've had the game installed since launch, but just tonight I tried playing the game and there were no sound effects. I checked the options menu and the SFX level was the same as I left it last time I played the game. Also, the options menu will not let me deselct fullscreen.

Is it just the SFX or is there no music as well? If you look next to the game (Right click game in steam, properties, local files, browse local files) there's a file called spplog.txt. Does it say anything? You could try fiddling with your volume slider as well, it's possible the volume got stuck in a state. I'm looking at the code to see what might cause this!

As for the fullscreen issue, it's a known issue and we're working to resolve it. In the meantime, if you run the game with the steam launch option "-window" does that work?

I'm getting music, and that slider in the options menu in game is working fine.

Also, running the game with steam launch option "window" doesn't change anything either.

I'd like to chime in that I have also had the game installed since launch and just recently fired it up after a long break (at least a couple weeks since I last played) and have no SFX either. I've checked out the spplog and verified game cache as well as messing with the volume options in the game and on my pc. Sounds work fine for everything but this it seems :C

I'm trying to figure out exactly what could cause something like this, It would have to be something funny with our savegame or dll's somehow.

I have the same problems. No sound effects and I can't leave fullscreen. (btw, the -window launch option works fine)

Any updates on this? I just started playing the game and I'm having the same issue.

I'm pretty stumped on this issue, the only light that has been shed is that it seems some other XNA based games are suffering the same problem. Are you guys on XP? If so, you can try this:
