BattleBlock Theater

BattleBlock Theater

Battleblock Theater caused my PC to crash and nearly break...TWICE.
The first time I had this I was playing one of the near final levels around chapter six, enjoying some battleblock, and there was a puzzle to let some cats down like a floodgate...So I let them past and die...I throw a grenade down there, and...It hit the wall, and...FROZE? Ok, just exit the...And I get a blue screen of death... Alright so I try a system repair and thankfully it works, but the next day, today, I finished BBT and decided to try the first encore, I'm running again, I jump and...ANOTHER crash, no BSoD and it straight up restarts...

After the BSoD from earlier and the restart, I had an issue where the acer screen would appear normally, but when it said Starting Windows, it went straight back to the Acer screen, and suggested to do a system repair. I try once more to start normally...Can't do that, so I do a system repair. It fixed it fine, but now I fear even starting up the game again!

Could someone tell me WHY and how to fix this issue? I love this game more then Butt Salad, but I don't want my computer to become the next toilet!

...Anyone?
Hey JadeFlames! if your computer is doing hard restarts and BSoD from playing a game it can sometimes be caused by dated drivers, a problem with Windows itself, or (even worse) hardware issues (overheating, memory issues etc).

First thing I would do is make absolutely sure that you have the most up to date drivers for your GPU, BIOS, DirectX, ... for everything!

From your description (where windows could not boot properly) it sounds like there may be some overlying issues with your computer that may be preventing it from running BBT smoothly (and causing crashes/BSoD)

You can check out this link for more information about resolving BSoD for Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/resolving-stop-blue-screen-errors-in-windows-7

And for Windows 8:

If it persists, please open up a Support Ticket with The Behemoth, including any information you can (what the BSoD error is etc.) and we'll do our best to help you out!

Honestly it was working for the first few days, and always seems to work fine except for those two times. I figured it was a one-time thing the first time it happened...

I use Windows 7, and how would I check my GPU/BIOS to update it? I think DirectX is the thing that all new games try to re-download and update when you start them and they need it?

That sounds incredibly impossible to me, I have my old and crappy computer running on windows xp from 2008 and it runs BBT fine with everything outdated/

The game runs fine, the issue are those two large lock-ups. Otherwise the game is pretty much well optimized, and only slightly lags in multiplayer, and even that is rare!

Erm...What?
It's more likely to be your rig than the game. I would take this as a warning and try to locate what went wrong instead of shrugging it off. If it's a hardware issue then it will only get worse. When my old hard disk was on it's way out, it would get random blue screens and I/O errors. I cheated and managed to partition a majority of the bad sectors onto a seperate sector of my hard disk that would not be accessed but it was nowhere near a viable solution.

Do what Jay said. If that doesn't come up with a solution, scan your hard disk for bad sectors using Windows chkdsk. To check for overheating, download the tool "SpeedFan" to monitor your temperatures in realtime and make adjustments accordingly.

Edit: I say this because it could result in data loss or damage to your machine. It's better to be safe than sorry!

@Mut,

I did a chkdsk, and it didn't mention any bad sectors from what I wrote down...

353536 file records processed
962 large file records processed
0 bad file records processed
0 EA records processed
61 repurse records processed
422890 index entries processed
34495280 USN bytes processed
353520 files processed
206327134 free clusters processed

Anyway, it happened a third time...By being in the first chapter's lobby...I...

I don't know why, I just finished 1-3 for insane mode, got a donut from my dad, and turn around to see it happened a third time. It went to a black screen instead of resetting on starting windows, so I had to reset it to get to system repair, which is currently running...I figured disabling V-Sync would help... :(
