How do I transfer gems when two player coop game?

Enter one of the chapters (where all the doors are). There is a big door in the middle of the bottom floor. Enter it, and then use the teleporters there to get to the top floor. To the right you'll find the trading spaces. Both players need to enter and then you can trade gems, yarn and heads. Only works for online coop, not local coop.

In a local coop I can buy faces with the gems, but the second player only wins the weapons I buy. How can I get the second player to free prisoners to win their faces

The second player (in local) should have the same faces the main player has. As far as I know the second player can neither earn gems nor unlock anything new.
