Copies of the game?

So I'm kind of new to Steam and I'm a little confused about the multiplayer thing. I know there are some party games where you only need one copy of the game in order to play with a group of people and then there are other games where everyone who wants to play has to buy their own copy... How does this game work?

This game has both local coop and online coop.
So you can play with your friends on the same machine (you'll only need one copy for this) or with people on separate machines (where a copy will need to be purchased for each account being used).
If you're playing locally, you'll probably want to plug in an xbox controller or something for them to play with.
