Some action seem to trigger only when you don't look at them. So you need to look at an other direction for it to trigger faster. Exemple when you ram the gate against Yuan Shu the ram block the gate. Turn around and suddenly by the power of magic some space appeared.
Same goes for the ladder at Wan castle . Turn around and suddenly those guys are way faster.
Oh, I also used the accessory that makes taking bases faster. Definite time saver.
It's this kind of nonsense that doesn't belong in games. This needs to be patched out, posthaste.
The one people mentioned with the ram I got first try but I was level 101 and just obliterated everything. Don't think I even played it particularly well. The 10 bases did require finding a strat but it wasn't too bad. You could probably also beat just lu bu and zhang liao and have enough time. Stopping guan yu from returning to the castle was easy. Just ran straight to him and blitzed him down before his allies even reached cao cao. The one to trigger traps made me feel stupid. It was actually really easy though. After failing it the first time I just never left the center until the ones that chase you appear. Mostly afk for almost 10 minutes but the objective completes itself.
