Absolute Cinema

I used to play a bunch of Dynasty Warriors when I was younger (PS2 Era, specifically DW2, 3, and Xtreme Legends 3), and vividly remember being enamored by not only the combat aspect of the game, but the lore as a whole, which got me into the RoTK genre and lore itself.

I can confidently say that DW: Origins brings back the love I used to have for the series, and somehow magically captures that awe and wonder I used to have back when I was playing the original games. Is it the best DW title game to date? Definitely not. But it's a huge step in the right direction, and I'm all for it.

The storytelling and presentation as a whole feels like a breath of fresh air. By far is this the most visually appealing DW game, and I can't stop blabbering about the soundtrack for each battle, cutscene, etc. I've spent hours and hours just replaying different cutscenes, re-listening to tracks, just because I've been able to enjoy all of them so much.

While I know that people have had issues with the limited weapon pool, I myself have had no problems what so ever with the limited selection. However, I do hope that they eventually add more weapons down the line (in the case of more content, who knows).

My only two gripes with the game are A: character bonds, and B: the protagonist (as everyone complains about).

Character bonds wise, it makes me feel like there was a lot more in store for customization, as a lot of characters say very "romantic" lines at the end of their bond, leaving me to wonder why they would ever cut out any sort of character customization for a character that, lets be honest, is very bland. Leading me to my next point on the protag.

I typically don't really care too much about silent protags. I understand their functions, and nevertheless don't really care too much. However, for a game that not only heavily involves the protagonist, but has key moments in cutscenes and dialog that indicate that there should be SOME response, he just simply stays silent. Again, it makes me feel like DW:Origins had originally been designed to have a customizable protag, and simply cut it out.

But again, I thoroughly enjoyed the content within DW: Origins, and I highly recommend anyone wanting to get into the DW franchise to purchase this game.
